Report
Due 03/15/2024 CEGR4310 Design Assignment #1 Auburn University is building a new Structural Engineering office building. The structural engineer has provided column loads based on the plan shown. The column at A-8 will impart a factored vertical load of 55k on its foundation. All other columns will impart a factored vertical load of 36k. A geotechnical investigation was completed for the site and is provided as ASEL_Boring Logs.pdf. You will need to develop a soil profile that represents the area beneath the columns loads based on boring logs in the vicinity. Determine the dimensions required of a shallow foundation to accommodate the vertical loads for the column with the highest load and the column with the weakest soil. Your answer would be in terms of reasonable, constructible footing dimensions. Also, hand calculate the total settlement that each column foundation is expected to experience. Compare your settlement hand calculated results for both foundations with results from the RocScience program Settle3D. Your submission is expected to look professional. Grades will be assessed using the enclosed rubric. Submit billable hours worked by each member of your team as an appendix to your report. Groups are listed below.
