Hamilton 1 Bryce Hamilton ENG 102 Dr. Wolfe 29 January 2024 Something that caught my attention in this chapter was the Rogerian Argumentative method. Using the nonconfrontational methods that were employed by psychologist Carl Rogers in his [personal therapy sessions. His thoughts were that people that were involved in arguments should not respond until they could fully, fairly, and even sympathetically understand and state the other person’s position. until they could fully, fairly, and even sympathetically understand and state the other person’s position. Professors Richard E. Young, Alton L. Becker, and Kenneth L. Pike were the ones who created the four part structure that is known as Rogerian argument. 1. Introduction : Describe the issue, conflict, or argument in specific enough terms and details that you show an understanding of the topic and that you acknowledge any opposing views. 2. Context : Describe scenarios where the opposing views would make sense. 3. Writer’s Position : Present the writer’s position on the topic and describe scenarios where that opinion would be valid. 4. Benefits to Opponents : Describe how the opposing views would benefit from adopting the writers view. Being open to opposing sides and views is the key to the argument style. You acknowledge the views and the circumstances they would be fair in.
