HINTS for finding the latitude, Longitude information: 1. Use Google Maps https://support.google.com/maps/answer/18539 to find the latitude / longitude coordinates of the location you are discussing. 2. This could be the origin of the event (e.g. epicentre) or one location where the aspect you discuss was “hazardous” or “disastrous”. 3. Most commonly this information is written as: Latitude, Longitude (together but separated by a comma; this is also Google’s format, and easier to review). However, these two values will be entered into Canvas separately. Page 2 of 5

I found this event quite unique given how serious the consequences were after such an impactful disaster. Furthermore, the event outlined steps for improved communications and aid deliveries for the international community, which has since helped prevent consequences this grave for earthquakes of a similar magnitude. In addition, despite the “negative” outlook in Haiti by the public media, there are many recorded instances of the Haitian people working through the event and rebuilding what they once had. I found this really inspiring and it showed me how a positive attitude can really change an outcome on one’s life. _______________________________________________________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________________________________________________ How long did you spend actually working on this Class Map, including doing the research, completing this Worksheet and writing the Class Map quiz? 70 minutes (numbers only, e.g., one hour is 60) Latitude and Longitude Most students in past terms got this correct. But it is easy to mix up latitude and longitude values. AND, getting their SIGN right is the most common source of error. This figure is a reminder. Please be careful when copying your latitude and longitude values from your online source to your Worksheet and to your Class Map quiz. Note for example, ALL Canadian locations have NEGATIVE longitude values! Page 4 of 5
