Video Analysis
Ms. Cleveland, an inclusive classroom teacher supports and displays several teaching strategies for her students with high-incidence disabilities. Students with disabilities need a lot of
structure, consistency and a feeling of a safe and loving classroom environment. The video “In-
cluding Students with High-Incidence Learning Disabilities: Strategies for Success,” shows these
methods. Students in the classroom use classroom technology such as graphic organizers to help them be more organized and organize their thoughts. Having more than one adult in the class-
room is helpful when teaching students with special needs. This organizational technique is said to help with their executive functioning. A function to help put a child’s thoughts in order and on
paper. Another teaching technique Ms. Cleveland uses in her classroom to calm down her hyper-
active students, “They often need something to touch, fidget with; we call them fidget objects” (Cengage Learning, 2017). An object they can stem off of to relax their hyperactive ways, such as not being able to focus or sit still in their chair. Like using graphic organizers, Ms. Cleveland really does a good job of breaking down assignments so that her students complete them and un-
derstand what they learned. Her idea of setting clear and concise expectations of her students to lessen their frustration when they try to negotiate with the teacher when they feel an assignment is to hard (Cengage Learning, 2017). I believe is a very important method when teaching espe-
cially children with disabilities. As an instructor, being their to offer assistance is important. My Teaching Strategies

Having had the chance to work with Special education students and general education students from pre-K to eighth grade; I find that there are a lot of ways a teacher can help support their students be successful in and outside of the classroom. It just depends on your specific set of students. No two students require the same support or learn alike, which is why it is so impor-
tant to construct a structural learning environment with consistency. I believe that it is important for students to understand differentiated instruction, because it is beneficial to them. Offering support for my students always looked different depending on what type of students I had. In an inclusive classroom, I would first be clear and concise of what I expect from my students. I would create a relaxed and friendly environment with my students so that it eases the tension. I would then go into all the levels of support they will have in the classroom when they feel they need it. I would have a sensory area in the classroom for my students that might need a stemming
break to help calm their impulsive ways. I would express to them that they can go over to that area whenever they will they might need a break and I will set a timer. Students with behavioral disabilities really require those frequent classroom breaks to help lessen tantrums, impulsive be-
haviors and distraction. I think of differentiated instruction as an alternative way or approach to teach children with disabilities in the classroom. Differentiated instruction may look different in each classroom. It is up to the discretion of the teacher to see how he/she would like to help their students be most successful. It is a teachers way to get creative with their students and bring back
different ways for students to learn in a way that they learn. Working around the students process
of learning, not the students working around the teachers way.

As a Christian and a teacher, I believe it is important for teachers to have an open mind to
collaborative learning especially with working with other teachers. “The student is not above the teacher, but everyone who is fully trained will be like their teacher” (Luke 6:40 New Interna-
tional Version). I like this passage because it expresses that being a teacher we need to set ground roles, expectations and are the heads of the classroom. We as educators deliver ideas and knowledge to our students so that one day they will be able to remember and teach those teaches to someone else. It is not teaching to just give our students the easy way out and not challenge them, teaching is creating new thoughts and ideas that will enlighten our students so that they can function in the classroom successfully and in society. One attribute that a teacher must al-
ways posses no mater when working with general education or special eduction is patience. Pa-
tience is key when teaching. When a teacher is frustrated that will transfer to their students and that does not make for a successful approach to teaching. All teachers approach their teaching techniques and strategies in different ways. I prefer to teach in a creative, out of the box way. I always keep my students in mind when figuring out different teaching techniques in order for my
students to grasp the subject or assignment. I teach and create a lessen or instruction around the way my student/students learn. Whether that means I teach a lessen sitting on the floor, creating a plan were my student works for 10minutes and breaks for 10 minutes then returns to work and that is done though the entire school day. Maybe one student requires different working material but doesn't need a break. When working with students with disabilities teachers need to work to-
gether and be aware of what students are in the classroom. Teachers should always be open to any new ideas that maybe another teacher thinks could be of help, especially if it may benefit the
student. I think this goes without saying but I find it is most important to me. Aside from having patience, teachers must have a love for what they do. When you love teaching, love coming into

work everyday and it bring you joy to see improvement in your students academic, social and emotional learning you feel the drive to keep going and keep breaking barriers in your students learning. Teachers need to feel the endurance to never give up on your students. If you feel your students aren't able, how are your students going to have confidence in themselves? This goes back to my passage, as educators we are the head of the classroom. We are the leaders. We must lead our students to a successful road ahead. Through patience, love and endurance teachers will have the open mind to work together to create success with their students.
