WRIT 100: Critical Analysis Assignment "Runaway" by Kanye West featuring Pusha T was released on October 21, 2010, and it immediately became popular worldwide. Not only is the beat and tune captivating, but the song's lyrics and the significance they hold for the listener drew me in. The Kanye West music video for "Runaway" enhances the emotional appeal through artistic expression and visual storytelling, which strengthen the pathos of the argument. The song's themes of reflection, regret, and redemption are given more depth in the video, which increases the story's overall emotional effect. Furthermore, Kanye West's creative vision and ability to communicate deep emotions through his music and images that are shown in the film further strengthen his creative image which strengthens the ethos of the argument. The video's creative presentation and emotional connection strengthen the song's persuasive power, even though it may not have a big impact on logos. This strengthens the song's overall claim about Kanye West's creativity and insightful storytelling. The visuals and lyrics shown in the music video “ Runaway” are strengthened by the effective use of pathos. For instance, in the music video, Kanye West is portrayed as a troubled and reflective figure surrounded by symbols representing his inner issues and difficulties. Scenes featuring a burning phoenix from the full-length film version of the music video, refer to concepts of devastation and rebirth giving the story additional emotional depth. Throughout the entire song, Kanye West expresses feelings of vulnerability, self-awareness, and regret by using a powerful vocabulary and a dramatic tone. For example, in the song "I'm so gifted at finding what I don't like the most," (West 1:33) West acknowledges his flaws and establishes a connection with listeners who might be going through a similar period of self- doubt. The use of emotional appeals in "Runaway" makes Kanye West's point more powerful and persuasive by appealing to listeners' emotions and appealing to their universal themes of human imperfection and the need for salvation. Kanye West demonstrates how a strong sense of ethos is present in the full-length film version of the song. The visual graphics and high production value of the music video reinforce the argument's ethos. The video's excellent cinematography, unique set designs, and attention to detail show West's
dedication to his craft and strengthen his reputation as a visionary artist, strengthening the power and persuasiveness of his message. Nonetheless, the music video doesn't mainly rely on facts or logical arguments. Rather than emphasizing logic, the focus is on artistic and emotional expression. Rather than offering logical explanations, Kanye West instead reflects on personal experiences and emotions throughout the song. The purpose of the "Runaway" music video is not to provide accurate facts, but rather to visually represent the feelings and concepts of the song. In conclusion, the analysis of Kanye West's song "Runaway" and the music video presents a strong overall argument. While the creator made minimal use of logical proof (logos), the argument is supported by powerful emotional appeals (pathos) and credibility (ethos).
