7-2 PROJECT ONE 3 Critical Analysis Essay “Do you know someone who needs hours alone every day?” (Rauch,2003) was the question that Jonathan Rauch opened with his article Caring for you Introvert, the article continues by asking several questions to help the readers to identify their introvert, how to how to understand them, and debunks stereotypes about the introvert’s community. The article's main claim was developed regarding if the readers are oppressing their families and friends who identify as an introvert, which will provide proof the readers are not as understanding and lack the care introverts require which is agreeable because the author explained how an introvert enjoys socializing and having meaningful conversations but need time to recharge which requires for them to have alone timed to achieve this, traits like this can come off as stuck-up and arrogant to many people. Non-introverts have the faintest idea of how they are tormenting introverts and the unwritten rule that extroverts are better than introverts at engaging in social activities like politics and public speeches. (Rauch, 2003) Once Rauch asked his series of questions to help identify the reader's introvert, he stated if the readers can say yes to any of the questions it will indicate that they may have an introvert that they are not “caring for”, (Rauch,2003) making them one of the most “misunderstood and aggrieved groups of people in America, possibly the world” (Rauch,2003) Rauch explains people's misconceptions of an introvert being nonsocial is false, he describes himself as being social, love engaging in conversations that are meaningful, and confident but just long doses of people can be tiring. When introverts feel overwhelmed, they like to engage in alone time that can help them “recharge”. Recharging helps introverts to have deep taught, and brainstorm new ideas, making them the opposite of extroverts. The people in the extrovert community enjoy long conversations that might not carry any meaning. Extroverts feel that being

7-2 PROJECT ONE 4 “alone” means that the person is shy or even depressed, they believed they are the life of the party and the center of attention. While introverts can understand an extrovert for who they are, it seems that extroverts cannot understand why introverts need time to be “alone”, no matter how much an introvert explains to them. (Rauch,2003) Introverts believe that with extravagant personas, extroverts can seem outgoing, born leaders, and can dominate leading fields like medicine, law, and politics. Rauch believed if introverts ran the world, there could be more world peace. Introverts having characteristics of “thinking before speaking” and “analyzing a situation before taking action” are great traits of leaders. Unfortunately, introverts are seen as unnatural in said fields, especially politics, with extroverts that desire to over-engage in things. It gives the illusion of being outgoing, having leadership skills, and being confident. While there are many introvert people who are famous and successful like Bill Clinton who’s the 42 ND  President of the United States of America, Calvin Coolidge 30 th  president, and many other famous politicians who are all introverts who are doing/did exceptionally well in their fields. Rauch is not claiming that introverts are better than extroverts, but that introverts can do what they need to do to get the job done when it is required. Introverts prefer meaningful full friendships and are great with doing activities alone, but let’s not downplay them. They are great leaders and can work with others very well. Introverts at the end of the day need time to recharge and downtime after socializing. Some potential pros of an introvert are they can be thoughtful because they are self-aware, great listeners, strong observational skills which studies have shown that introverts are able to observe people and situations, and not as impulsive as extroverts in situations. Introverts at the end of the day need time to recharge and downtime after socializing. Being an introvert or an extrovert is not an awful thing. The main issue is that introverts are seen as a bad name to be called, like a taboo. But, like Rauch, coming to terms with being an introvert allowed him to come to terms with being an introvert and opened the door to the realization of how other people view and treat introverts. Extroverts should be able to better understand their fellow introverts, understanding why they are the way they are and how to comfort them. This can be achieved by researching and reading books and articles to be able to know your introvert. Most importantly, learn from your introvert who they are, how they enjoy their days and believe they also can be successful in any career they choose to follow. As Rach states, extroverts just stop talking and listen to their fellow introverts. This can create an ease to the oppression that is laid on them. And remember asking them questions like, is there something wrong? Are you well? Is not comforting at all, simply asking them how you can support them, and respect their life choice is a sign that you’ve
