In 1942 Camp Kearny in California the Navy provided a short airfield catapult system demonstrating the ability of a short field take of that was like in World War 2. Shortly after 1965 with all designs and information they came up with the name Expeditionary airfield (EAF). On 1
June 1965 the first deployed SATS system became operational at Chu Lai, Vietnam, with the arrival of eight A-4 Skyhawks from VMA-223 and VMA-311. The first combat mission from a SATS airfield was flown the same day. During the course of the war, Marine Corps A-4s, the A-
6 Intruder, F-8 Crusader and F-4 Phantom II were all operated from Chu Lai. After Vietnam, SATS tactics were refined at training sites in the United States. The next major operational use came following the September 11 attacks when airfields were needed quickly to support troops being sent to Iraq and Afghanistan. Today expeditionary airfields remain in daily use in those active combat areas. “7011 MOS.” MOSDb. Accessed May 20, 2023. http://www.mosdb.com/marine-corps/7011/mos/3929/. As this has been something around for quite some time and talking about the Expeditionary landing for planes to land on with all safety measures to support the mission, we bring this talent to the new world and military that we are currently serving now. The growth and testing we now have 2 different sides of EAF, and it has a
station side and a Wing or deployable side. This was crucial to be able to support future operations in country but also provide great training for pilots to train with (careers in the military May 2023). Some things that changed and merged over the years have created some mild reactions and to cover some of the different topic of the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats within the 7011 community that has been around and are affecting it now. Covering the topics that were listed will cover and clear up some information and be able to explain why we need this support job to be able to move to the future and support the 2030 plan that the Commandant

has passed on and the way forward for the Marine corps. This will support the SWOT and show how the Strengths will support the weakness and opportunities against the threats.
The first topic is going to be the strength of the EAF community. This MOS is a very reliable and crucial MOS that needs to be around to support expeditionary capabilities. Some new things that have been the strengths around this MOS is the Promotion time and Specialized Experts. Since it was created and in the new generation this is not a popular Mos but is something you will learn a lot about and have a lot of schooling and experience to learn. Right now, with having a smaller MOS the Promotion time to pick up rank and be in a leadership role is a lot faster than most jobs in the Marine Corps and is something that can support of the MOS to help make the Marine have more leadership and money in their pocket. With the specialized training that Marines get not only help them in life but also with this job they have engineering back round to support their life skills.
Suffering some weakness, we have a very bad retention rate which includes having Marines in the billets higher and or lower on the chain. This is a big effect on the MOS and the demanding request to follow. Marines have a bad image when joining thinking they are going to go around the world and travel and then get stuck at a station unit and its just a normal 24-hour shift and will never go anywhere in the first four years of the career they just signed up for. Marines should be placed in a wing unit to be able to understand the Job and understand to better
know and recognize the deployment Marine Wing Support Squadron (MWSS). When being attached to the MWSS this will allow them to see the full benefits of this job and motivate them to stay in. To counter the previous there are many opportunities that are coming around to help fill the gap of more advancements within the job and the response capabilities that are being pushed

down from the Higher Marine Corps. With the new design of the new the 2030 plan of the commandant there will be plenty of chances to travel and see places that have either been not seen and or vacant conducting Tactical/Assault Landing Zone Assessment Surveys. The new project that showed up is the deployment to Italy. As most Marines are not deploying 7011 Marines can see the world and be able to do surveys for future ops. The MOS engineers that are a civilian contractor are always turning and trying to design new options for better expeditionary operations. Previous 7011 Marines have used Alumni Matting for all aircraft operations and currently fielded a new type to better fit the way forward. NAWCAD Lakehurst team members continue to support the current generation of Marine Corps EAFs around the world. The modern version of Chu Lai is delivered with AM-2 matting, night-vision compatible lighting, visual landing aids, M31 arresting gear and the necessary support equipment. The PSA Flattop matting was created for more of a lighter foot print in country that is more light weight and portable and is able to be transported to support of a 120ft by 120ft of a Vertical landing takeoff for rotary wing aircraft.
The biggest topic of this is going to be some threats within the Mos and that is going to be merging and being considered an engineer. This has some good points and has been tried out in previous units but not work because of the nature of one is ground side and the other is going to be an airfield capability. Not being trained in this and more focused on the Aircraft side this something not only when merging MOS and trying to get a secondary number but also it would make the engineer MOS very large and unstable when it comes to managing. The 7011 community is also unique and with the way the structure is formatted there is no billet for field grade officers but only chief warrant officer that were in the prior MOS of a 7011 or 7051.

To compare and find out how to support and solve the different areas covered the strengths listed of promotion time and being a specialized expert will be mitigated the problem of the retention process. The strength that would have to be used and seen is the Promotion time and being able to have the skill set as you graduate and procced to your first duty station. Unlike most jobs this will benefit the Marine and be able to have more leadership roles within the MOS and be able to have more positions and duty stations that can be covered by the increased leadership.
To resolve the threat the opportunities of Technological advancements and response capabilities will solve the factor of merging with the Engineer MOS. As it was covered being able to have the ability of the better response for the aircraft and the information and the knowledge that a 7011 Marine has compared to an Engineer Marine. This is something that if you had a bigger MOS fill and not the special response and knowledge of the 7011 it would create a lot of confusion and more fault to the overall mission. The advancements that have been in devolvement will also help the merging because of the new specific airfield matting and support for the 2030 plan.
In conclusion, covering the strength of a quicker and faster promotion time, weakness of the retention within the 7001 MOS, opportunities of response capabilities, the threats of a potential merging with the Engineer company and how the MOS has been around for generations
and the support that it gives to the Marine Corps will never fall apart but make the Marine corps stronger and make it a more rounded force as we grow and learn new and more information. This
will forever be a way to the new Corps and support the roles of newer wars and or support missions. Sticking to the strengths and opportunities that was listed in this paper will not the let

the MOS fall and or merge with the engineer company as this is something far left and far right and will not function or work due to the different scopes of practice.
