Marinez 1 Geissel Marinez ARH2000 ART APPRECIATION ONLINE Professor. Yasmin Khalaf September 17, 2023 Writing Assignment 1: Describing artwork Stylistically Georgia O’Keeffe-hands and Thimble, 1919. Author: Alfred Stieglitz (artist) American, 1864-1946. Medium: Palladium print. Artwork : Georgia O’Keeffe-hands and Thimble, 1919. This artwork is a two-handed photograph made in 1919 and named " Georgia O'Keeffe-Hands and Thimble" by American artist Alfred Stieglitz 1864-1946. As you can see, in the photo there are two hands.
Marinez 2 The upper hand is holding a dark-toned fabric subtly, and the lower hand is holding a needle and ajar elegantly and the upper hand intends to hold it more firmly. Many notice a monochromatic color with a shade of black and white and others distinguish it as gray and black, however, the photograph is printed in dark brown and gold tones. This photograph shows details that some may be confused as, for example, the hand below the naked eye seems to hold the fabric by pinching when a curved needle is held and many argue that no needle is seen, however, the thimble it carries is to protect itself from punctures with the needle. Vertical Constellation with Bomb, 1943 Author: Alexander Calder (sculptor) American, 1898 – 1976. Medium : Wire, Wood, and paint. Artwork: Vertical Constellation with Bomb, 1943.
Marinez 3 This artwork called " Vertical Constellation with bomb", made in 1943 by the American sculptor Alexander Calder 1898 – 1976 is a sculpture made of painted wood and stiff, straight brown wire. The wire is intertwined in pieces of wood of different sizes, colors, and shapes holding them to each other and supporting the ground. Many of the wooden pieces maintain their characteristic brown color, while some of them are painted dark and light colors. What most impacts and stands out at first sight in this work of art is the way in which the pieces are placed and connected and the unknown that is generated when seeing this work. At first, I saw it and wondered. How come they do not fall because of the effect of gravity? Will the pieces be hollow? What material will the wire be? This art form is one of my favorites because it generates questions and attracts more attention. Marinez 4 This work of art called “ Classic Landscape" was painted in 1931 by the American painter and photographer Charles Sheeler 1883 – 1965 is a painting made in Oil on canvas in which there is an industrial area, railroad tracks, and mounds of some material of construction. The different warm colors in the painting give the feeling of being a desolate and hot place with the sky scorched by pollution. This work of art was inspired at that time by a new planta. Ford Motor Company's River Rouge plant in Detroit. At the time it was the largest industrial company in the world. Charles Sheeler made photographs for advertising of the company, however, when making this drawing he recognized it as something different, more than advertising always saw it as an art named the history of modern man as well as the sculptures that in ancient Greece and Rome.
