I. Based on your current favorite choice for a topic/debate within the course theme announcement
, answer the following:
A. State your stance within the debate you chose, without using “I.”
(1 sentence)
Excessive use of social media is detrimental to the user's mental health
B. Why is your stance a good one for an argument research essay? (at least 3 sentences)
Social media has revolutionized the way we communicate, but its impact on our mental
health is a growing concern. It is undeniable that social media can be a breeding ground for
unrealistic standards of beauty, lifestyle, and success, leading to feelings of inadequacy, low
self-esteem, and even depression. Cyberbullying, a rampant issue on social media, causes
significant emotional distress and can deeply affect a user's mental well-being. Furthermore,
excessive social media use can lead to addiction, which has been linked to depression, anxiety,
and other mental health problems. Let us strive for a healthier relationship with social media and
prioritize our mental well-being.

C. Who might disagree with your stance and why? (at least 3 sentences)
One could argue that social media can have a positive impact on mental health by providing
a sense of community and support. Others may argue that social media is not inherently problematic, but rather depends on the users ability to properly navigate the tool.
D. Who do you imagine your audience will be? (at least 2 sentences)
Victims of online harassment or cyberbullying, or family of those victims.
Individuals with peers or family struggling with social media addiction.
Parents in general
II. In a full paragraph of 7-9 sentences, and without performing any research, please note what you already understand about the debate and what you do not already understand about the debate:
Social media can have negative effects on mental health in several ways. Excessive use of social media can lead to social isolation, loneliness, and depression. Individuals may not feel the need for face-to-face interaction when communication is easily accomplished through social sites. This also leads to an increase in anxiety and stress due to a decrease in social skills and constantly living through a made-up persona. Self-esteem and fear of missing out arise with the increased use of social media due to constant comparison between the users, their peers, and strangers. In addition, cyberbullying is a growing problem on social media platforms, which can have a devastating impact on mental health. The user's exposure to negative comments or news at random may lead to an increase in suicidal thought. it's important to be mindful of how much time we spend on social media and the impact it can have on our well-being.
