Technology is considered to be a synonym for the 21st-century classroom. Technology when used appropriately can act as a great boon in the learning curve of a learner. Integration of technology in the essay writing process could potentially enhance and enrich the learner’s experiences and outcomes (Richards & McKenna, 2003). The two ways through which teachers can incorporate technology are the usage of online writing platforms and making reading-writing interactive. The first strategy of incorporating writing platforms eases the stress for learners to remember spellings or sentence structures. Using writing platforms would enable the learners to write with an open mind without fearing being ridiculed for spelling errors or the like. This strategy supports the learner to focus on the key aspect of writing i.e. to express one's thoughts, feelings, experiences and so forth making the writing process more fun and enriching (DeCandido & Office, 2000). An example of such a writing platform is Grammarly. The key benefit of such a tool is to provide instant feedback to improve the quality of writing. Furthermore, this tool also promotes self-analysis which is a great way to learn and grow oneself. It also requires minimal resources and can be done from anywhere with the use of a device and the internet. The writing activity isn’t restricted to the classroom rather it can be transcended to the world outside of the four walls of the classroom. The second strategy is to make the essay writing process interactive. This calls for a conversation between the author and its readers. Due to technological advancements, the author can ask its readers to comment their thoughts on the piece of their work or even suggest. Printed texts unfortunately do not provide such ease of connection with the readers as compared to texts on tools like Google Docs etc. There are quite a few of the cognitive or mental capacities being used while connecting with the text hence making it more lucrative for young readers to connect with the text. Moreove r, with the use of graphics, vocabulary, illustrations, and concept maps it’s more effective to connect with readers and help them comprehend and engage with the text. This would lead to better retention of information in a reader’s mind, an ultimate aim o f a writer. The text can be dynamic and customizable based on the reading-writing experience (Benjamin, 2005). Incorporation of technological bits in the essay writing process wouldn’t be restricted to the improvement of the writing skills alone. Rather it would also open the doors for collaboration, connection, and creativity. It would motivate learners to be effective communicators in a fast- moving and ever-revolving world (Cutler, 2014) References Benjamin, A (2005). Writing in the content areas.
