Last Name 1 First Name and Last Name Course Name Professor Name April 24, 2022 Analysis of Son of Trickster by Eden Robinson Eden Robinson's new novel declares, "Life is hard." Robinson's novel captivates readers in complicated situations with no simple solutions. In this reviewer's opinion, Son of a Trickster adds to the intricacy of Robinson's storytelling by guiding viewers down a road where Indigenous spiritual and paranormal realms meet with popular culture and traditional school due to come stories[ CITATION Ale173 \l 1033 ] . Kitamaat Village has been populated by the Haisla for centuries and centuries, and it now houses approximately half of the 1,700 Haisla people. In an unconventional coming-of-age narrative, Son of a Trickster blends aboriginal belief systems and quirky family relationships with fantasy, suspense, and sharp, natural dye humour. The character of Son of a Trickster, Jared, resides in Kitimat, a town near. Robinson relies on Heiltsuk and Haisla mythology in this work, notably in her portrayal of the trickster raven Wee'git. This essay analyze the different and important themes of “Son of Trickster” by Eden Robinson. One of the main theme of this novel is dysfunctional families, maturity, and responsibility. As given in the novel, Jared Martin, a Native American child of 16, lives with his mentally volatile mother Maggie and her drug-dealing partner. Jared's father, lives nearby with his new wife and children, but due to a back ailment, he is unable to work. As a result of these conditions, Jared is responsible for the proper and financial well-being of his parents and friends in his life, as they are unable to care for themselves[ CITATION Ede17 \l 1033 ]. Son of a Trickster shows how adolescents from dysfunctional households are frequently
Last Name 2 compelled to grow up faster than their classmates because they are forced to take on tasks that adults in their life fail to fulfil. While being only a teenager, Jared takes on many of his parents' responsibilities, demonstrating how their addictions and negligence push Jared to assume parental responsibilities. Jared also shows concern for others, illustrating how his family's inverted parent/child relationship has made him more competent and mature in many areas of his life[ CITATION Ede17 \l 1033 ]. The proximity of these occurrences demonstrates that, in different circumstances, Jared would be able to be more lighthearted or have a more typical adolescent experience—but his maturity and responsibilities throw a melancholy load on him the majority of the time. After reading this novel, the second theme that noted is love vs. violence. Jared's life in Kitimat is loaded up with violence. While setting up the Maryjane treats he sells, he is grabbed and attacked, and he is manhandled by several of his mom's lovers. In a confusing way, violence and love are personally interlaced for Jared, as the two his mom and his better half, Sarah, endeavor to show their love for him by means of violence (his mom utilizes violence to safeguard him and show him how to safeguard himself, and his girlfriend attempts to be violent during sex). Jared keeps away from violence in any setting since he has been exposed to such a lot of violence because of individuals who don't love him[ CITATION Ede17 \l 1033 ]. All things considered, he searches out adoring associations, like those with his canine and grandmother. In this manner, this novel demonstrates how combining “love and violence” may be confused and emotionally unpleasant, yet affection is the foundation of the strongest ties. Violent passion, in this regard, may be emotionally and interpersonally damaging in a way that warm, loving love cannot. Jared's interactions with his paternal grandmother and his dog, on the other hand, are peaceful. They're a healthier option and more satisfying than his previous, more violent relationships[ CITATION Ede17 \l 1033 ]. His best
Last Name 3 companion is his dog. Dog cuddles him and licking his face, then waits patiently for him to return home before following him about. Environment and Human Destruction is also theme of this novel. This is due to the fact that the story is set in a First Nations community in British Columbia. It's heartening to learn that humans have lost their links to nature and the rest of the cosmos, and that their haughty attitude to towards the environment might spell doom[ CITATION Ede17 \l 1033 ]. As a consequence of people's ignorance of their essential bond with nature, Son of a Trickster highlights that they are now on a road to destroy it, and maybe themselves, as a result. The book focuses on how people are harming the ecosystem with which they are inextricably linked. Jared, the protagonist, has an enigmatic link to a mystical realm, which leads him to have weird visions. Humanity's environmental damage is so terrible that it will trigger a massive mass extinction that would eventually wipe out humans as well[ CITATION Ede17 \l 1033 ]. A girl (Selkie) at a party Jared attends claims that the Earth has entered the "Anthropocene." This is the geological time during which humans have had the greatest impact on climate and the environment. When Sarah mentions Idle No More, a real-life campaign founded by “First Nations” people in Canada to resist environmental destruction, the book relates this ecological statement to Native culture. The novel further underlines that this topic is anything from imaginary by addressing a genuine movement, implying that everyone should understand their connection to nature and fight against degradation of the environment. It concludes that the Son of Trickster has three major themes those are directly relating to its main character Jared Martin. These themes are dysfunctional families, maturity, and responsibility love vs. violence, and environment and human destruction. Jared is responsible for the proper and financial well-being of his parents and friends in his life, as they are unable to care for themselves. Violence and love are personally interlaced for Jared,
