Metallica: Nothing Else Matters to Unveiled by Ingrid Laubrock, and The Very Thing featuring Esperanza Spalding from Kris Davis’ Diatom Ribbons out October 4th.
The song serves two realities/ideologies thematically. Initially, the song was to create a bond between the writer of the song and the audience while later on the songs showed a strong connection and faith in the relationship that exists between the two parties. It is against the critics
who might be having a negative attitude and feelings (
Michalowsky, 2019)
. It is a sentimental expression of appreciation that the lyricist displayed. It is that connection that makes, “Nothing Else Matters” the most celebrated song in the band since its release in 1992. The song was an orchestration by the greatest song composer Micheal Kamen. Metallica, a heavy metal band, has been one of the most original and popular rock bands in the music world since the rock n' roll revolution. They are also regarded as the forefathers of thrash metal, which includes distorted guitar tones, strong bass, fast-paced drums, and gruff vocals. Indeed, for two decades, their music was creative and inventive in ways that no one had done before. Metallica's career began in 1981. Lars Ulrich (drums), a young heavy metal fan who
had been listening to NWOBHM (New Wave Of British Heavy Metal), had the notion to form his own band (
Horning, 2018)
. Lars met James Hetfield (guitar/vocals) in the summer of 1981, who was a fan of NWOBHM as well as U.K. hardcore punk music. They became fast friends and
decided to call their band Metallica.
The Very Thing featuring Esperanza Spalding from Kris Davis’ Diatom Ribbons was released on Oct 2019. It is groundbreaking jazz that was performed with a lot of flexibility and defiance to the traditional conventions of Jazz music (McLean, 2021). Metallica is a music composer of nothing else matter, which is a hard rock genre of music that incorporates

instruments such as drums, guitar, and piano, while Ingrid Laubrock primarily utilizes trumpet notes. Harp, violin, and piano are also used in this piece. The Very Thing, featuring Esperanza Spalding, is a solo piano piece from Kris Davis' Diatom Ribbons that combines a mix of instruments including the piano, drums, and violin. Some of the voicings on "Diatom Ribbons" have been compared to Messiaen's solo piano concertos, notably "Petites esquisses d'oiseaux" ("little bird sketches").
Industry Baby by Lil Nas X to Manteca by Dizzy Gillespie, and Balafon style "Sénoufo" -
Adama Diabaté - BaraGnouma
“Manteca” is among the pioneer foundational tunes of Afro-Cuban jazz written by Dizzy Gillespie, Gil Fuller, and Chano Pozo in 1947. According to music analysts, the song is also one of the most prominent of Gillespie’s recordings and “one of the most important records ever made in the United States” (
Sweeney, 2005). Most importantly, it is the first tune rhythmically founded on the clave to become a “jazz standard.” On the other hand, “Industry Baby” by Lil Nas X is a song by the U.S. rappers Jack Harlow and Lil Nas X, released through Columbia Records in July 2021. The song was ranked position two on the Billboard Hot 100 for the August
7 week in 2021. The current paper compares the two songs.
“Manteca” was first performed on September 29, 1947, and it was received very well by the people. Essentially, Manteca is an African-Cuban dialect for heroin. The song refers to or talks about racial tensions in the U.S. For instance, Gillespie is heard singing, “I’ll never go back
to Georgia.” Other artists later adopted the “Never Go Back to Georgia” chant into their songs. Dizzy Gillespie was a singer, composer, bandleader, and jazz trumpeter who originated this first Latin jazz. However, the mainstream jazz audience is generally unaware of Gillespie’s

innovations in this song. While Manteca talked about the critical issue of racism in the U.S., Lil Nas X’s piece seems to promote or encourage the aspect of gay or MSMs in the U.S. The "Industry Baby" is a gay song raped by Lil Nas X. The song's music video focuses on the homosexual hatred directed at Lil Nas X. He is surrounded by naked male dancers dancing on the stage of a prison shower. However, Lil Nas X is not about to skip out on the fun but to dance with other guys naked and have a slight blur covering private parts. Nas is a friend of Jack Harlow, and he is the one who helps him escape. Lil Nas X is a trap music performer, and
most of his songs are written in the trap genre. It makes use of voices of synthesizer a sampling drum machine, and a snare drum. This piece also makes use of brass and keyboard. When comparing this work to Menteca by Dizzy Gillespie, the sole difference is that the latter uses lead
trumpet notes.
