Amy Tan Outlining Argument Analysis
Outlining Arguments: Amy Tan
The main assertion of this entire essay is that people will treat you differently and judge you based
on your ability to speak english fluently, and because of this peoples lives can be changed.
1. The first argument that Tan makes is that even though her mom can't speak perfect english she
still has the same emotions and thoughts that every other english speaking person has. a. Her mom is
not capable of completing grammatically correct sentences all the time, most people would say her
english is "broken" or "limited" b. When people would try to talk to her mom they said that they
could only "understand 50% of what my mother says" and others said "they understood none of it,
as if she were speaking pure

One of her final arguments is that your knowledge of English directly impacts the amount of
opportunities and possibilities one gets in their life. a. The reason why she thinks this is because
since she was raised in a family where english wasn't spoken perfectly then she wouldn't be able to
do as well on certain tests that other, less intelligent people would do better in. b. Tan "believes that
it affected my achievement tests, IQ tests, and the SAT". This would consequently limit the
opportunities she would get later on in life. c. Tan uses the argument of cause and effect. She says
that the cause is she was born in a family that didn't speak perfect english and the effect was she
scored lower on standardized tests and this would ultimately impact her opportunities in life. d. This
is an assertion because she is saying that because her english wasn't the best her grades suffered
directly because of that.
4. Her final argument is that asians as a whole are funneled from the beginning to learn and focus on
math and science because their english isn't as good as their all american classmates. a. Tan asks the
question "why are there few Asian Americans enrolled in creative writing programs? And "why do

I am tasked in this paper to give the main features of the Global Political Economy, its implications
and effects on the national development in the South. The South, in this case, is being defined as the
third world .
Many scholars, opinion leaders and political analysts etc. have expressed divergent and dissenting
views regarding the effects of globalization on individuals, nations and the world at large. While
globalization is a highly contested concept, it is widely viewed to involve a process of rapid
intensification of economic, political, and cultural interconnectedness among the different actors and
geographic areas in the global system.
The current global political economic situation is a good lens for thinking about the South's place in
the world. Linden's views in the new map of the world states:"The growing power of the

multinational corporations (MNCs) was and is acknowledged as the most obvious force building a
new globalising economy. Defined simply as corporations controlling assets –factories, mines,
marketing offices – in more than two countries, MNCs are major bearers of the 'soft power' that is
shaping the structures of a new world" (Linden:2003). He goes onto giving more arguments that the
manufacturing production chain of the multinational corporations is dispersed across many countries
in small–scale units of which they increasingly control rather than own.

An Outline Of Strengths And Weaknesses
Introduction
This report will include a personal profile, skills audits and an outline of strengths and weaknesses. I
have also included an action plan of areas I would like to improve and a reflection.
Personal profile
I have made the decision to go back into education after taking 2 years out of work to be a mother.
Prior to becoming a mother I gained valuable work experience by working in many different
administrational roles for various fast paced organisations.
Skills Audits
I carried out the following self–assessed skills audits:–
Current skills and qualities, Turning personal skills into academic skills, Study skills stage 1 and 2
and Study skills action plan,(Cottrell, 2008). Refer to appendix 1 – 5.
Transferable skills including Self–
management
, Learning
, Communication, Information literacy,
Team working, Critical thinking, Information technology, Numeracy, career management and
professional development, (Bournemouth University, 2005) Refer to appendix 6 – 11.
Leaning styles questionnaire (Brainboxx, no date, online) Refer appendix 12.
By carrying out the skills audits I identified what I am good at, which are listed below:–
Ability to get on with people from different backgrounds, dealing with the general public,
teamwork, training others, dealing with others by phone, able to take direction, setting priorities,
organising work to meet deadlines, being practical at things.
I also assessed my learning style, the assessment suggested that I am a pragmatist, which

Reflection On My English 101 Experience
Reflecting on My English 101 Experience I used to consider writing as tumble words from your
mind, write, read it through, fix minor mistakes, and done. However, you rarely get successful. The
truth is many students, including myself, struggle with starting to write a word, or getting stuck in
the middle without knowing the main point of the writing
. After completing English 101, I can
explain the writing process, evaluate the strengths of my essay
, and identify my weaknesses.
Throughout English 101, I learned that the following the writing process was imperative. Before
taking this class, I use to always skip the pre–writing step considering that it is just an easy and
unnecessary step. Consequently, I struggled to figure how to start writing, and most importantly I
struggled to figure out the main point while writing the draft. And then I finish the first draft close to
the deadline that I do not have time to read it not to mention revising. It was after I started this class
that learned that pre–writing is vital, and requires time and attention as it holds the base of the whole
writing. My professor used different analogies such as blueprint for building and map for navigation
to explain the importance. It really speeded up my writing after I started to utilize it. I have learned
outlining before, but part of the pre–writing that I was fortunate enough to learning in English 101 is
the writing triangle. Even before outlining, the topic, purpose, and audience of the

Outlining My Profession Analysis
The profession that I have chosen to get a degree in at Kaplan University is a Bachelor's of Science
in Healthcare Administration. I was previously a nursing student going to school to get my RN but
changed my mind after working in a clinical setting at my new area of employment. This clinical
setting has opened my eyes and gave me the experience that I needed in order to help me realize
what it was I wanted to do in the future and pointed me in the right direction for the degree that I
have chosen to get. After graduation my goal is to become part of the administration team in the
ophthalmology department where I work. Outlining My Profession in Healthcare Administration

an award and certificate for recognition for being a preceptor and the main one on my unit? I
received a 14 in enterprising which shows that I like work that has to do with starting up and
carrying business projects. Which is accurate with me being the type of person that likes to take

love making decisions. My last interest that I scored highest in was a 29 in conventional. This trait

but I love even more being that leader for those to look up to when needing assistance. (Bachelors in

Introduction
Doing business across continents requires cultural awareness. Cultural awareness involves
understanding, appreciating and learning about different cultures where one does business
(Ogasawara, 2010). This blog focuses on doing business in Japan, with the aim of outlining the
uniqueness of Japanese culture. The areas of focus are greetings and communication style, the
concept of time, and personal space and/or eye contact
. People often mistake Japanese culture as
difficult to understand and an obstacle in doing international business. However, below is an
understanding of this culture when it comes to international business.
Communication Style & Greetings
Japanese culture is characterized by communication difficulties. There is always a difference
between what one says and what one publicly states. This may as well be different from what one
thinks. In their language, this means that there is a difference between the expressed tatemae and the
felt hone (Ogwasara, 2010 & Khan, 2010). Sometimes they contradict. Once Japanese feels
comfortable to reveal the honne, the business will progress positively.
Therefore, a successful businessperson in Japan must learn to unravel the underlying truth behind
the spoken rhetoric (Ogwasara, 2010 & Khan, 2010). This is because a non–Japanese cannot easily
navigate through the confusing paradoxes. In ability to speak Japanese also hinders business
development between two parties. This is much profound because the levels of

The Induction Process, An Outline Essay
An induction is a process for the employee to receive full understanding of the company values,
principles and objectives. It is designed for new employees and employees taking a new role within
the company. It helps to understand what the company expect from the employee. An induction
process gives a clear view to the employee about the company and gives him all the information
needed to fulfil his duty. It helps the employee to work effectively within a short time, by following
the guidance given. It helps to motivate a person by giving him understandable level of knowledge
to do the job. An induction process helps him to extend his skills. It gives the employee a welcoming
feeling, so the employee feels valuable. It

the first day to make him aware of safety in the work place. 3. First week at work. Within the first
week the employee will be closely followed, coached and trained by his line manager and mentor.
The employee will receive all training as required. All necessary meetings will be arranged for the
employee to meet his key contacts and customers. 4. From the second week up to week twelve: The
employee is coached by his line manager. More training is given. The employee has been observed
and assessed. The line manager will prepare constructive feedback from the customers and key
contacts. 5. End of the twelve week induction period. It is very important to review the induction
program of the employee at the end. The employee will also have a chance to give his feedback, by
filling in an evaluation form. We will know if an employee has enough experience to do his job. The
employee will know what is expected from him. All concerns will be highlighted. A decision will be
made if more training is needed. Good practise principles are followed within the induction process.
To follow a good practise is to prepare a basic TO–DO list for the whole induction process.

In 1975, Schmidt proposed his Schema Theory of Motor Learning. This theory was produced as an
alternative theory to Adams' Closed Loop Theory (1971). Schmidt (1982, p.482) says "In 1975,
largely due to my dissatisfaction with Adams' position, I formulated a theory that can be considered
a rival to Adams'." Schmidt had concerns about Adams' theory, that it didn't place enough emphasis
on open loop control processes. According to Schmidt (1982) a major limitation of this theory is that
it focuses on slow, linear–positioning responses, which are not representative of the many other
different kinds of skills we use in everyday life. Adams' theory was based on the premise of
perceptual and memory traces. The perceptual trace is a memory of

What happened (knowledge of results). 4) Sensory consequences. How the movement felt, looked
etc. The information gained is not stored permanently. It is stored until the relationship between
them has been extracted. The rule is stored that represents the relations between the variables.
However, Schema theory does not specify how generalised motor programmes are formed in the
first place. It gives no indication of how the individual makes the first response when supposedly no
schema exists, therefore there is no prerequisite for the movement. Schmidt (1982, p.488) says "A
particular movement outcome need not be produced previously in order to be produced in the
future." He thinks this because the basis of producing a new movement is a rule about parameter
selection based on how similar movements were performed earlier. He produces evidence that after
varied practice novel movements can be performed as accurately as they can if just the novel action
had been repeated. This suggests that motor learning may be rule based, rather than the learning of
specific responses. Schema theory works on two main schemas, Recall and Recognition Schema.
Recall memory is responsible for the movement that occurs, and, Recognition memory is
accountable for the evaluation of the movement. Recall memory acts to produce movements, usually
quick response movements. Every time the schema is used more information is gathered, and the
individual begins to establish a relationship that

Reflection On Outlining My Paper
Self–Reflection After writing a few drafts for my argumentative essay I have discovered the
importance of outlining my papers. I started with a few topics to choose from: social media, gun
control, and the importance of schooling. After selecting my topic or social media, I narrowed down
a point I wanted to make revolving around social media. I feel my topic is a powerful topic. After I
wrote I my first draft, I realized I had to change a few things. Such as how many topics I wanted to
discuss, their relevance, and how far in depth I would be able to go, while only using two and a half
pages. My topics consisted of bullying, criminal activity, peer pressure, predators, and famous
influences. After reviewing and studying my words I

Thoughts On Outlining
My thoughts on outlining, I think outlining is a great tool and idea to help you get started to write. It
helps you get ready to write your paper, helps with structure of your paper and how and what you
are going to write about in your paper,it's very similar to brainstorming in my opinion. I find it
sometimes hard for me to do an outline. I feel like just jumping right into the paper works best for
me, writing down whatever comes into my mind. Then editing the paper later on. In the past with
previous experience with outlining, I have found out that It does help you get started on the paper

Without this layer of gases the Earth would be too cold to be inhabited, perhaps 20 degrees cooler
than now. But, then amount of gases in this layer must remain constant. Even a slight increase could
have drastic results. Many people believe that a one degree increase in the temperature will not
cause much harm. The truth is with every degree of increase in temperature a 100 more wildlife
species are put in danger of extinction. Numerous experiments and studies prove that an increased
level of greenhouse gases, mainly carbon dioxide
, is causing climate change and causing it fast.
2) Human Activities
A) Burning of fossil fuels–This is the most prominent and deadly source of climate change. Burning
of fossil fuels can release greenhouse gases ranging from carbon dioxide to ammonia. With massive
industrialization currently going on, the amount of fossil fuels burned is increasing. Transport and
heating are also major energy sources. Almost 7 giga tonnes of Carbon dioxide is emitted per year.
In the U.K three–fourths of energy produced comes from fossil fuels. Mineral fuels like petroleum
and coal are major sources of energy. In the last 150 years more than 45 Billion tonnes of carbon
dioxide has been emitted .The most problematic factor is that in the last decade; there has been no
slowdown in carbon emissions.
B) Poor use of land–Plants are the only natural purifiers of air and also the most abundant. But,

ATTENTION–GETTING OPENER An athlete is a person who is trained or skilled in exercises,
sports, or games requiring physical strength, agility, or stamina. Athletes train and practice year–
round to prepare for the competition and challenges. Most high school, college, amateur and
professional athletes participate in sports for the opportunity to pit their abilities against those of
their peers, and to experience the satisfaction that comes from playing to their potential. Others do
so to satisfy a desire for recognition and fame. Unfortunately all this creates some athletes who are

TRANSITION: Now, I will mention some famous athletes that used, during their careers and
competitions, anabolic steroids. I'm sure you know most of them. Over the years many professional
athletes have been focus of the media, after being caught using anabolic steroids. To name only a
few, here are some examples. Heidi Krieger proved herself one of the world's top athletes in the
1980s, winning medal after medal in the shot put for East Germany. Heidi Krieger, the 1986
European women's shot–put champion, became Andreas Krieger after a sex–change operation in
1997. He said he had been fed so many steroids by his coaches without his knowledge that physical
and emotional problems began. We remember when Ben Johnson was stripped of his gold medal in
the 1988 Seoul Olympics. Many athletes that were seen as heroes had their problems with anabolic
use. Good examples of athletes that were made to look like heroes were Mark McGwire and
Florence Griffith Joyner. Flo Jo was suspected of drug abuse when she won her gold medals in the
Olympics. She was tested ten years after the Olympics and came up negative, but most steroids are

Outline : Outlining Vs. Winging
Week #3: Outlining vs. Winging It
Why outline your story?
What are the benefits of outlining a story? Outlines help the writer to organize plot points and
sequences. They help the writer to focus and stay on track. But when it comes to outlining a story
plot, one size does not fit all. There are as many ways for detailing your story plan as there are
writers–meaning, every writer must find the way that works best for him. Let's take a look at several
methods for outlining a plot.
Methods for outlining your story
Traditional approach. Otherwise known as the basic outlining method all of us were taught in fourth
grade English class. For those having trouble remembering, each heading has a Roman numeral,
subheadings underneath are

And then the boss gives a short speech, announcing Mary's promotion.
And then Mary's co–workers whisper behind her back.
And then Mary comes home to find Tom at her apartment.
And then Mary shares her good news, but Tom doesn't look happy, paces the room.
A variation on this method is to omit the words "and then," which is what I do. The amount of detail
in each line depends on the writer. This method works well for those of us who like detail, but also
like a less structured approach to gathering plot information. Be sure and double space between lines
in case further plot points need to be added later.
Free Writing method. Throw out all the structure, set the timer for twenty minutes, and write
everything you know about this story.
Example:
Mary doesn't suspect a thing when her boss gives her a promotion at the board meeting. (Mary
happens to be wearing her brand new gray pinstriped business suit she saved up for months to
purchase, just so she could be taken seriously. Play hardball with the big boys.) Her boss seems to
be in a good mood when he tells her about the promotion, but her co–workers whisper behind her

Typical medical assistant training programs lead to a degree or certificate, and last one or two years,
respectively (QuinStreet, Inc, 2003–2012). The Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health
Education Programs (CAAHEP) or the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES)
is medical assistant programs that the medical assistants go through to receive internships at clinics
or hospitals. Medical terminology, physiology and anatomy, medical law, ethics, and patient
relations are medical courses to be taken upon medical training. Keyboarding, record–keeping,
accounting procedures, and insurance processing are office training courses. First aid, laboratory and
clinical procedures, and administering medications are taught to students in the program. But
although there is no national licensing requirements, depending on the state that the medical
assistant decides to work in, medical assistants may have to receive a license to complete certain
duties. One of several agencies certifies medical assistants and it is very important to get certified if
medical assistants decide to apply for entry level positions. My first priority in starting my career as
a medical assistant is to become certified first. Setting goals is one of the best methods that I can do

Essay on Determination
Some people believe that talent and a winning attitude are all you need in order to succeed in your
endeavors, but a winning attitude means having determination, which many people lack. As seen on
wisdomforthesoul.org, "Real leaders are ordinary people with extraordinary determination."
Determination is an important factor in the overall success or failure of a person's efforts.
Unfortunately, determination is not something that comes easy to the majority of people. To be truly
determined, a person must first be passionate about what they're doing. Passion, however, is only the
first step towards resolution and determination. One must have a clear goal in mind
, and be willing
to do anything to achieve said goal. Once they have set

(www.merriam–webster.com) This is synonymous with my personal definition of determination.
When the end is decided upon, there is no reason or desire to change said goal. A person under the
influence of determination is comparable to a train. The train will not change its direction, as it
cannot, and no matter what, the train will continue along the tracks until it either reaches its
destination, or is stopped by the conductor. For as an example, my plan after high school is to go to
college, and then move into the professional world. When confronted about possibly wanting to join
the military, my answer is absolutely not. Going to college right after high school has always been
my mindset, and there's no way my determination will let that change. I am the metaphorical train,
because my destination is set, and there's no chance for me to adjust my direction. I will not stray
from my goal, because it would mean wrecking myself and all those involved in my endeavors.
There will be mountains in front of me, and people I may have to run over to reach my goal, but
when one's mind is set, they will not waver, and neither will I.
Another dictionary defines determination as firmness of purpose (thefreedictionary.com). When one
is determined, they are ready for what life throws at them, because no matter how obscure the path
may be, they always have a clear view of their final destination. To be determined means to always

Outline On Homelessness
Homelessness
Introduction
Heading home from a long day's work. The traffic light turns red. Waiting for the light to turn green,
to the left a man with a sign walking up and down the curb. "Homeless and Hungry," "Will Work for
Shelter," or "Homeless Need Help" are just a few notes jotted on cardboard to get drivers attention.
Homelessness has the ability to affect a number of people on a daily basis. According to National
Health Care of the Homeless Council, n.d. (NHCHC), "there is more than one official definition of
homelessness". Needless–to–say, those who lack a fixed and adequate residence can become
homelessness. These situations can make the social problem bigger than it should be in conjunction
with structural factors, affordable house, and traumatic actions will help miss the mark.

Outlining: The Writing Process
Outlining to me is the most important and helpful stage of the writing process. By conducting an
outline, I am able to organize the way I want my paper to read. Outlining also helps me see which
areas I need to add more detail to. I do not think I omitted anything. Although I did need to go back
and write out complete topic sentences. I had just listed the main points instead of writing out
complete sentences. I think I did forget to add rebuttals to my counter arguments. I left this out for
now because I plan to use the main points in my paper to address the counter arguments. I did add
more sources to my outline because I came across some things that I thought would help back up the
main points. I really feel outlining is helpful when writing
