Poetry Reflection
Poem and Author:
1.
What do you think the title means in relation to the poem?
I think the title of the poems means it is a call to
action - action=
remembering
2.
What is the most important line from the poem?
In my opinion in line 4 it says Nor I half turn to go yet turning stay.
Why?
I really think that this line is very important because it shows her attitude
towards death and that she doesn't want to leave you as a close friend.
3.
What literary device was used that you found to be most important or impactful?
How was it used? Why is it the most important?
In the poem, the poet highlights the metaphor of
“the silent land” to
place distance between them, and knows that after death, there is no
chance
when he can “hold her by the hand.” all through the complete poem, as in case
the storyteller fears that her friend will not regard her request. She moreover
employs redundancy to stress the endless boundary between life and passing,
composing “gone away,” and afterward, “gone distant away.” when I am gone –
euphemism for passing.
4.
What line spoke to you or did you like best?
The line that spoke to me the most was the line that said Hold Me By The
Hand
Why?
This line shows her close relationship with best friend
5.
What is the tone and theme of the poem?
Tone: tone wavers between conciliatory and contemplative, soft and weak.
Theme:
Christina Rossetti taps into themes of life, memory, forgetting, loss or
death, and love.
What is your evidence for that?
Tone: as she tries to entreat her beloved to never disregard her indeed when she
has ‘gone far away into the quiet arrive. Within the to begin with a few lines,
she is adamant that she must be remembered at all costs when she is not
physically shown to remind her significant other to do so.
Theme: The last mentioned is seen most clearly through the final lines of the
poem. The speaker’s love for her listener is stronger than her desire that they
keep in mind her after she’s gone. She’d or maybe they be upbeat than keep up
her memory, a marker of genuine cherish. Memory is one of the major topics, as
is seen through the redundancy of the word “remember.”
6.
Please write me a response (1 page minimum) explaining how you connected
with the poem. This could be you connecting to the theme, tone, emotions, or a
particular phrase.
In my 11 years of school, I have got to know lots of friends. A few for 10+
years and others for a brief period of time. You think you’ll be friends until the
end of time until you start shifting apart. I had a very close friend named
George and I knew him for 14-15 years and I thought he would be next to me
and be by my side for the rest of my life. We have always talked about doing
something outside of school and just hanging out. We would laugh and have fun
every time we would see each other. It was a beautiful Saturday morning and I
was getting ready for my soccer practice and seeing my new coaches and
teammates. Today was the day that I will be seeing my new coach named Tony
who coached one of the best soccer teams in the league and I knew he was the
key to help our team win the gold medal.
A few hours passed when I came home
from practice. I ran to my parents' room and my mom received a call from
George's parents saying that he is in the hospital and is on the edge of survival.
That call made my mood from happy to dark and heartbroken. To say that I

took what they said to heart would be an understatement. After seeing him
lying down on the bed on the edge of survival brings tears to my eyes. Imagine
seeing the best friend who was the kind of friend who was happy being by your
side all the time despite everything you have gone through on the edge of
survival. He then whispered to me his final words, he said, “David no matter
what happens to you all i want from you is to remember me after I die even if
your memory of me begins to fade”. He then reached out his hands and took me
in his arms. Not a second after, the heartbeat sensor stopped detecting any
heartbeat and my friend passed away. After not being able to see him at school,
weeks felt like months and I began to struggle with depression and stress. My
parents told me to step back from school to cope with the stress I had and
although I was able to cope with the problem, choosing to pick happiness over
sadness was the biggest thing for me to achieve.
