as both positive and negative. A Holistic view can also be identified and defined. These definitions
of health have changed over time and will carry on changing within the future. According to where a
family lives or their social class everyone will have different meanings and views of health and
wellbeing. This may be due to what one person perceives as being healthy as another person may

According to Floyd, Mimms and Yelding (2008) Webster's Dictionary defines health as "the
condition of being sound in body, mind and spirit... freedom from physical disease or pain." This
definition has very much taken the holistic view. Wellbeing is a term in which reflects on the
positive emphasis on health and can be broken down into six aspects know as environmental,
physical, social, emotional, mental and spiritual. To achieve a high balance of wellbeing it is vital
that a person is able to balance and take care of each aspect effectively. Underdown (2007) implies
that in 1948 the World Health Organization (WHO) defines health as 'a state of complete physical,
mental and social well–being and not just the absence of disease or infirmity.' This definition took a
holistic view as it mentions mental and social wellbeing and it was supported as it focused on a
person being healthy rather than not being ill. However, this definition has been widely criticized.
Seedhouse (1986) believed that for someone to be in perfect state of health is unachievable and
unrealistic.
There is a wide range of major genetic, social and environmental factors which influence the health
and wellbeing of children in today's society. According to The Marmot Review (2011) the more

As writers, many students write to the expectations of their professors and not to their fullest
potential. Throughout English 101 I had been writing only to please my professor or to fill the basic
requirement to pass English. I always felt that my writing ability was never enough for my
professors throughout the previous years. They always wanted clear and concise essays, which for
some reason was unreachable by me. However, starting college and taking English 101 helped me
with my weaknesses and changed my technique of writing essays. My experience in English 101
taught me to write to my fullest potential and to write what I felt; rather then writing what was
required.

Also, by revising my essays I felt that I had the chance of writing with a broader sense.
Another weakness that I had coming into English 101 was my way of reading. I remember having to
read an essay or book 3 or 4 times before I could ever sit down and write about it. I was looking and
at the words all wrong. However, my professor introduced a technique of reading critically. "A
critical analysis, on the other hand, takes a viewpoint and attempts to its validity;" (Trimble, 95) In
Trimble's quote he is trying say that a critical analysis helps a reader understand what the author is
really trying to point out. This was the same approach that was taught to me by my professor. This
type of analysis helped me understand better what the author was trying to convey and it also helped
me explain it better in my essays.
Additionally, another weakness that I had when coming into English 101 was that I was a selfish
writer. Like Trimble said, "His natural tendency as a writer is to think primarily of himself– hence to
write primarily for himself." (Trimble, 4) I was a writer who only cared about impressing one type
of audience my professor and not writing to prove a point or expand my knowledge to several other
audiences. However, after writing several unsatisfying essays I had come to realize that my style of
writing was too narrow and boring. In this realization of writing I discovered that what matters the

To build responsibility as a child I volunteered to take care of my family dog. Even though she was
the family's pet I took it upon myself to make sure she was properly fed, watered, and walked. My
mother was very proud of my new development as an adolescent. She became very encouraging and
would come up with other special chores around the house that I could be relied upon to handle. To
some children this would seem like a punishment, but both of my parents were so supportive and
persuasive that I looked forward to having the gained accountability. My father instituted honesty
and respect as monuments for responsibility. I of course struggled at times with taking care of my
dog, and handling some of my other chores. But my father always wanted me to not only be honest
with my parents, but also with myself. He stated that a lie would not benefit anybody and it was

Reflecting on My English 101 Experience I used to consider writing as tumble words from your
mind, write, read it through, fix minor mistakes, and done. However, you rarely get successful. The
truth is many students, including myself, struggle with starting to write a word, or getting stuck in
the middle without knowing the main point of the writing

explain the writing process, evaluate the strengths of my essay

Throughout English 101, I learned that the following the writing process was imperative. Before
taking this class, I use to always skip the pre–writing step considering that it is just an easy and
unnecessary step. Consequently, I struggled to figure how to start writing, and most importantly I
struggled to figure out the main point while writing the draft. And then I finish the first draft close to
the deadline that I do not have time to read it not to mention revising. It was after I started this class
that learned that pre–writing is vital, and requires time and attention as it holds the base of the whole
writing. My professor used different analogies such as blueprint for building and map for navigation
to explain the importance. It really speeded up my writing after I started to utilize it. I have learned
outlining before, but part of the pre–writing that I was fortunate enough to learning in English 101 is

I was born in San Jose, Costa Rica, and moved to California when I was very young. Before I
moved to California my dad traveled back and forth for 2 or 3 yrs from California and back to Costa
Rica. He spent most of his time working in the Fresno area, in the cities of Tulare, and Visalia. He
says he spent his time working in any available job including some farm labor jobs and went back to
Costa Rica to spend time with us. After the second time he left Costa Rica to come and work he did
not go back. At that time, amnesty was given to immigrants in California, and he moved up north to
the Bay area to find a steady job. That is when he saved enough money for my mother, my two

I was in ESL programs until I entered junior high school. Learning the language, and trying to keep
up with the class work was a challenge for me. Having friends who spoke my language, and the
English language as well was an advantage I had. Having that extra help and support really made
my school experience challenging, but exciting as well.

. I don't only believe that the support that I can give to migrant students as a Mini–Corps
student will help them in succeeding in school, but I believe that an appreciation for school can be

my math classes too. My interest grew and grew, and I joined summer girl programs. After
participating two year, I became a mentor to those new peers coming into the program. I worked
with teachers in Science, and in Math classes. I also participated in the volleyball activities, and
group activities. This is when I realized I wanted to work with youth my whole life. My interest in
English, and my interest in being a role model to youth made me decide to become an English

and have had an abortion you increase your chances of having breast cancer by fifty percent.
Abortion has no good results in for the mother or the poor murdered baby. In the end it will always
cause physical and emotional pain.

developments included rational emotive behavior therapy (REBT) developed by Albert Ellis, and
Beck and colleagues' cognitive therapy. There are many different forms of CBT and the target
population varies depending on the form. Some of the many different forms include: trauma–
focused CBT for children, CBT for late–life depression, and CBT for adolescent depression to name
a few; each form has a variety of age groups intended as its target population. For example CBT for
adolescent depression has the target population of individuals ages 13–17 and 18–25 whereas CBT
for late–life depression has the target population of individuals ages 55 and older (NREPP, 2014)
CBT differs from other forms of psychotherapy in the sense the sessions have more structure. Those
with specific focus and goal may benefit more from CBT. It is less suitable for someone who feels
vaguely unhappy or unfulfilled, but doesn't have any symptoms or a particular aspect of their life

I have always loved looking and participating in art classes, although I am not the best artist, and I
enjoy learning about the history behind different art techniques. But I think that international
