Writing Project #3: Research Project UWRT 150 Snyder Writing Project 3 (1500-word “Research Project”) UWP DIRECTIONS : Conduct research using academic databases available through the RIT Library site Evaluate and use 5 or more sources in the literature review of your proposal Keep track and assess usefulness of sources with an Annotated Bibliography Use MLA or APA citation methods, and include a Works Cited page Compose at least two drafts Participate in peer review Respond to instructor feedback Compose a Reflection about writing process Minimum 1500 words on the final draft (not including Annotated Bibliography, Works Cited, or Reflection) 35% of course grade OUR DIRECTIONS: Select a topic that you can make into a researchable question Apply what we discussed in class from Harris’s (2017) “Taking an Approach” chapter Write a Research Proposal, following the CaRS model (included below) Your paper must have 1500 words with at least 5 sources. Use the CaRS Model, Create a Research Space (Swales & Feak, 2004), below to create a proposal on a topic of your choice: Move 1 – Establishing a Research Territory 1a . Show that the general research area is important, central, interesting, problematic, or relevant in some way. 1b. Review previous research that relates to your topic. o Be sure to first establish a common topic or purpose for your literature review or sections of your literature review in order to clarify your purpose for including each source. Move 2 – Establishing a niche Indicate a gap in previous research OR explain how you will extend previous research in some way. Move 3 – Occupying the niche (Explaining the details of YOUR research study or solution) 3a . Explain your purpose and give general details about the method/process you will employ to conduct this research/solve this problem.
3b . List your specific research questions or hypotheses 3d . Explain the value of this research/new solution Reference Page Choose the most common citation style in your field, and be sure to follow all of the requirements and formatting for that style. Include a reference for ANY/ALL sources and images that you include information from in your proposal. GRADING PHILOSOPHY : “To earn a C students must clearly restate the project of a text; for a B they must note moments in it of particular interest or difficulty; and for an A they must articulate a position of their own that responds to and makes strong use of its ideas and phrasings” (Harris, 2017, p. 130).
