LAB 8 Brooke Sims GEO 1401 Dr Jeff Lee INTRODUCTION In Lab 8, our goal is to examine the average annual temperatures of 3 cities in America in order to determine whether global annual temperatures are rising. We hypothesize that each of the cities chosen will show a warming pattern defined as one-half degrees Celsius or more increase on a linear trend line over the past 30 years. PROCEDURE Using the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration database that was available at the following website -https://www.ncdc.noaa.gov/cag/global/time-series; I have collected data from three United States Cities. I have decided to do 3 cities that have different geographic locations but all reside in the USA, those cities are; Amarillo TX, Ft. Wayne ID, and Fairbanks AK. The data given by NCDC was then put into an excel spreadsheet in order to make visual scatterplot graphs, and then changed the temperatures from Fahrenheit to Celsius. These Scatterplots are listed below

Fig3. DISCUSSION/CONCLUSION What these results say about the temperature trends in the USA is that the annual average temperatures are surely rising… but what it doesn’t say is if this is all over the world or just a regional issue. This is not “proof” that global warming is indeed happening… it is merely just facts that average temperatures are rising. FUTURE STUDIES: I want to expand on the rise of GLOBAL annual average temps… not just in America. Especially with places that experience extreme weather, maybe see the average annual amount of Hurricanes over the last 30 years and see if that correlates with rising temperatures?
