Module 7: Data Analysis
I am conducting research on how to grow healthy Petunias at home. The purpose of this study is to see how changing the type of soil affect the growth of Petunias. There are a few questions to address about my research topic on growing healthy Petunias. Does soil that is too acidic affect the growth of Petunias? Why do soil pH matter for Petunias? How much sunlight do
they need? Why do some Petunias start to turn yellow? How much water and sunlight do they need to grow optimally? What environmental factors affect plant growth?
For independent variables, I chose soil type used, water, and amount of sunlight. For dependent variables, I chose Plant growth. In my research, I will be using nominal data. The nominal data will be soil type used because this value is quality, not quantity. I will also be using ordinal type of data in my research. Ordinal data is a statistical type of quantitative data in which variables exist in naturally occurring ordered categories. We can use ordinal numbers to define their position like a Likert scale with how much water we use and the amount of sunlight to see the progress of the plant growth.
The data analysis techniques that I believe are appropriate to apply to my proposed study will be Qualitative data analysis techniques. There are two main qualitative data approaches. They are deductive and inductive. Deductive approach is the “analysis method that is used by researchers and analysts who already have a theory or a predetermined idea of the likely input from a sample population” (
Top 4 Data Analysis Techniques
, 2021). It aims to collect data that is
accurate and supports the theory or hypothesis. Inductive approach is a “researcher or analyst with little insight into the outcome of a sample population collects the appropriate amount of data about a topic of interest” (
Top 4 Data Analysis Techniques
, 2021). They investigate the data for patterns and aims to develop a theory to explain the patterns.

What are the consequences of poor work quality or omissions with life critical engineering systems?
Discuss about contemporary issues containing an engineering component as part of its resolution. These contemporary issues relate to the consequences of poor work quality or omissions with life critical engineering systems.
Explain why the issues are critical.

I have just started my first Semester (Fall 2021) out of 4 semesters in Master of Applied Science (M.A.S) in Power Engineering at Illinois Institute of Technology. I did not clearly undersand the course enrollment system because I am new to the system, so I ended up enrolling in courses; ECE58-Microgrid Design and Operation, and ECE579-Computer Aided Design of Electrical Machines. It appears ECE582 listed ECE418 (Power System Analysis) as a prerequisite; and ECE539 requires ECE319 (Fundamentals of Power Engineering) and ECE412(Hybrid Electric Vehicle Drives) as prerequisites. Let me hasten to add that I graduated in 2009 in a different academic setup in Africa in Electrical Engineering. So, not only do I have to cover the gap of about 12 year out of classroom, but I have compounded the problem by jumping into advanced courses before enrolling into foundation courses. Unfortunately I can no longer switch courses as the enrollment window has passed. I am only left with one option; to…
