What is the Default bucket permission in S3? In Amazon S3 (Simple Storage Service), the default bucket permission is private. This means that when you create a new bucket, only the bucket owner has access to the bucket and the objects within it. No one else has any permissions to see or access the bucket or its contents unless explicitly granted by the bucket owner. What are naming requirements for an S3 bucket? Length: Bucket names must be between 3 and 63 characters in length. Valid Characters: Bucket names can only contain lowercase letters, numbers, hyphens (-), and periods (.). Start and End: Bucket names should not begin or end with a hyphen. Format: Bucket names must not be formatted as IP addresses (e.g., 192.168.1.1). Unique Globally: Every bucket name must be unique across all existing bucket names in Amazon S3. This is because S3 bucket names are in a global namespace. Avoid periods if possible: If you plan to use SSL for your bucket (like for a website), avoid using periods in the bucket name. Some SSL certificates will not validate correctly if a bucket name contains periods. No uppercase: Bucket names cannot contain uppercase characters. Successive periods: Bucket names can contain multiple periods, but they should not have successive periods (..).
