2 U.S. Department of Justice. (2020). Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Security Policy . https://www.fbi.gov/file-repository/cjis_security_policy_v5-9_20200601.pdf/view The FBI has created a Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Security Policy that “provides a baseline of security requirements for current and planned services” (U.S. Department of Justice, 2020). The CJIS Policy “provides guidance for the creation, viewing, modification, transmission, dissemination, storage, and destruction of Criminal Justice Information (CJI)” (U.S. Department of Justice, 2020). This security policy was created by the FBI to protect Criminal Justice information. According to the “U.S. Department of Justice” (2020), the CJIS Security policy strengthens the partnership between the FBI and CJIS System Agencies. Having a Security Policy delivers a protected outline that is expected across all criminal justice agencies. U.S. Department of Justice. (2020). National Security . https://www.justice.gov/jm/jm-9-90000- national-security For the Department of Justice, protecting our national security is their top priority (U.S. Department of Justice, 2020). This includes but is not limited to national defense, international security, and foreign relations. The Department of Justice must resolve any security issues carefully. The Attorney General “has certain statutory authority and obligations regarding the national security prosecutions” (U.S. Department of Justice, 2020). There are many National Security Statutes that pertain to National Security. “A variety of other Federal statutes may also be used to prevent, disrupt, and prosecute national security threats” (U.S. Department of Justice, 2020). National security threats are taken very seriously and are not taken lightly.
3 U.S. Marshals. (2022). Witness Security . https://www.usmarshals.gov/what-we-do/witness- security The Witness Security Program was created in 1971 and has “protected, relocated, and given new identities to more than 19,000 witnesses and their family members” (U.S. Marshals, 2022). The U.S. Marshalls can provide security to witnesses whose lives are in danger due to their testimony. They are testifying against “drug traffickers, terrorists, organized crime members, and other major criminals” (U.S. Marshals, 2022). While the witnesses and their families are under the Witness Security Program, they receive new identities, funding for living expenses, and employment assistance. This security program is a vital program that protects witnesses who testify against serious criminals. By having this program, many people are still alive after a serious act.
