Bashir Henderson CIS 270 9/11/2023 Data Breach Case Study Data breaches are an interesting thing. They are when sensitive, protected, and confidential information are unauthorized person without permission.(Kaspersky). There can be many different reasons why data breaches happen. For instance, an Accidental insider is basically when an employee or ex worker is accessing information, they shouldn’t be able to. Also, It could be from lost or stolen devices that hackers will break into to get information. Lastly malicious hackers who are trying to hack into various networks or individuals to gain the information they need.(Kaspersky). According to an article by Firewall Times a recent data breach was MOVEit which was companies and government agencies were disclosed that they had been breached in a string of cyberattacks. They were targeted by a Russian hacker group called Clop. They are a ransomware group which means they hack different companies for money and other things. Some of the information that was compromised was sensitive health data and social security numbers for millions of Americans. This is one of many different attacks that have happened in America in 2023. Some ways they could’ve prevented the data breach was by conducting Penetration testing which is basically when you hire someone to test vulnerabilities that could’ve been exploited by hackers. Another thing is by using continuous monitoring and threat intelligence which is when you monitor your network constantly for unusual activities and make sure nothing is going on with your network. Lastly creating an Incident response plan would help a lot. Which
is basically when you create a comprehensive plan that would have all the steps to take in the event of a data breach.
