MEES Lesson Sequence & Pacing Guide Lesson Title: Free Play Grade: 2nd Subject: Computer Science Objective (s): The student will be able to turn on the Chromebook and find a game of their choice from the Bookmarks Bar and play a game, advance at coding levels, or create virtual artwork successfully. MLS Standards 2.CS.D.01 Select and use a computing device to perform a variety of tasks for an intended outcome. Materials/Resources Needed: Chromebook, headphones, list of websites on Bookmarks Bar, Code.org class code Lesson Sequence Pacing/Time Anticipatory Set (List specific statements or activities you will use to focus students on the lesson for the day.): Most of this semester you worked on Code.org learning algorithms or specific instructions to make an event happen. List some of the things you had to make happen on Code.org. [Allow response.] Today will be a free play day. You make go on any site under Bookmarks Bar. If you want to work on your coding levels, I’ll put your class code on the board. 3 mins. Input (What information is essential for the student to know before beginning and how will this skill be communicated to students?): They will need to know they can go on the website of their choice under the list of websites on Bookmarks Bar and class code that will be displayed on the boards. Model (If you will be demonstrating the skill or competence, how will this be done?): Check for Understanding (Identify strategies to be used to determine if students have learned the objectives.): I will travel about the room and see that each student is engaged in an online program. Guided Practice (List activities which will be used to guide student practice and provide a time frame for completing this practice.): The students will be working cooperatively at their tables or individually on a site of their choice.
Closure (What method of review and evaluation will be used to complete the lesson?): Evaluation will occur as I walk around and check on each student individually, asking questions about what they are engaged in. Independent Practice (List homework/seatwork assignment to be given to students to ensure they have mastered the skill without teacher guidance.): The seatwork is the engagement on their Chromebooks. 22 mins.
