1 Tennille Gould 2023FA.ONLIN-GS-402-S03 Professor Allison List 2 December 2023 The Necessity of Stricter Gun Control Measures in Modern Society in Reducing Gun Violence Our culture has long been troubled by the problem of gun violence, which has sparked conversations about practical ways to lessen its effects. The use of background checks for potential gun purchasers is one important issue that has drawn attention. According to this reasoning, background checks are an essential instrument for lowering gun violence. This paper will explore the arguments for this assertion in this part, looking at how background checks enhance security for everyone as a whole. Restricting Access to Firearms for People with a Background of Violence or Mental Health Issues Background checks are essential in keeping guns out of the wrong hands, especially for those with violent or mental health histories. Authorities can detect people who might be a threat to anyone or anything if given access to firearms by carefully screening potential gun customers. This justification is consistent with the fundamental goal of maintaining public safety and lowering the likelihood of violent impulsive behaviors. Many research has been done in this field. Data on Gun-Related Incidents. Several studies have demonstrated a link between the use of firearms and those with previous
2 experiences of violence or mental health disorders. A study by Smith at el. stated that a sizable portion of gun-related instances featured offenders who had a history of mental illness or aggressive inclinations (Smith et al., 2020). Numerous studies claim that there is a need to reduce gun violence rather than to impose strict laws against it. Numerous incidents that have been supported by a variety of evidence have demonstrated the necessity for strict gun control measures (Redding & Shalf, 2001). For example, a study by highlights that efforts to prevent gun violence have led to a greater emphasis on tightening and strengthening the laws. Background checks are essential for enforcing stringent laws that prohibit the purchase of firearms, which has a significant impact on potential threats. To protect public safety, stricter gun control laws are also required in today's society to reduce gun violence. Numerous incidents of mass shootings in public places, including schools, highlight the worrying state of affairs in society and highlight the need for stricter laws against gun violence. Strict gun control laws are designed to reduce illegal gun ownership and thus reduce crime, making the world a safer place for everyone (Butts et al., 2015). The goal also includes lowering the number of shootings of this kind, which significantly affect communities. Therefore, in order to reduce gun violence in modern society, strict gun control measures are needed.
