Conflict Log
As per the textbook, conflict refers to a clear and open fight between two or more parties that rely
on each other, yet have different objectives, limited resources, and face obstacles from others in accomplishing their goals (Hocker, J., & Wilmot, W. 2017). Conflict is characterized as a visible confrontation between two or more interrelated parties that have conflicting goals, limited resources, and face external obstacles in achieving their objectives. Perception is the central focus of all conflict study. Individuals exhibit behavior in interpersonal conflicts as if they had genuine opposing goals, encounter limited resources, and regard the other person as obstructing their valued aims. These conditions are often
presumed to be authentic, but conflict analysis relies on distinguishing between what is seen and what is socially accurate. A worldview refers to a person or group's set of beliefs and perspectives that shape their
understanding of life and the cosmos. Fundamentally, it is the vantage point from which the world is comprehended. It may include your perspectives on topics such as politics, philosophy, and religion. Our
worldview, frequently overlooked, profoundly determines our interactions with the world and significantly impacts our values, choices, and actions. Personally, I want to have a positive outlook and prioritize love in my life. Consequently, I find conflict to be an intriguing phenomenon to navigate. Despite my aversion to confrontation, I proactively address it by promptly facing the problem and attentively listening to the opposing person. Resolving a situation may be challenging when the other individual involved has a tendency to avoid confrontation. A conflict-avoidant personality refers to a behavioral pattern characterized by a strong inclination to please others, resulting in a deliberate avoidance of conflicts or disputes. Individuals with this personality type are driven by a fear of upsetting or angering others.
A person's conflict management style is characterized by their tendency to avoid immediately addressing the problem at hand. Approaches to achieve this objective might include altering the topic, postponing a conversation until a later time, or refraining from introducing the disputed issue. This might create the perception that the person attempting to address the issue is too assertive. I find myself in this situation often. In general, I can see the extent to which my perspective on the world influences my approach to handling conflicts. I am eager to get more insight into my own self and explore
my coping mechanisms during the duration of this course.
