Tully is a 75-year-old female who has an intellectual
disability. She enjoys art, reading and music. She is not overly social and tends to spend time alone privately
completing recreational activities. She has been a smoker for 40
years and usually smokes up to 8–10 cigarettes a day. She is
able to go for walks for short periods at a time only. Tully is sensitive to loud noises in the environment, which causes her to become quite anxious and stressed. Being anxious or stressed causes Tully to smoke more frequently
through the day. Tully’s father passed away from lung cancer due to smoking when
she was younger, so one of her goals is to cut back on smoking.
She is hoping to smoke only 2 cigarettes per day. Notes from the group discussion

Trully is an elder female, it doesn't say she has family member living together and she cannot look after herself. Trully want to get rid of smoking, this our goal to help her, she likes art, music and reading, we can help her to do something regarding art, music and reading to release her anxiety, help her to reduce cigarettes to 2 per day, for example, play her favourite music CD, turn on TV and let her watch the programme she interests in, provide her books she likes, take her out for a walk and does some exercise, let her do some recreative crafts. To keep her in quite place. Her father was passed away because of lung cancer, her goal is to reduce smoking cigarettes, we can help
her to some exercise and short walk to distract her smoking, keep her visit some close friends and family, take her to library. meditation, seek professional advice from doctors or physiotherapists. We can provide all the choices mentioned above, Trully can choose some she interests, and she can decide do it herself or need our assistance, if she wants do it herself, we can organize transportation, search related information for her, make
sure she is safe, if she needs walk long distance, we can help her to walk. And we may need consultants' advice, we should encourage Trully to make decision herself.
