D253 - TASK 1: Becoming an Effective Values-Based Leader A.
Completed survey and attached results in task submission
A1. My notable strength resides in maintaining a robust sense of optimism. I consistently adopt a positive mindset and confront challenges with hope. Over 7 years in my previous professional role, I grappled with considerable stress, uncertainty, and occasional fear. Whether navigating through work projects, skill development, or community engagements, the constant that buoyed my spirits was hope. I firmly adhere to the belief that there is always a positive aspect in every situation. Despite the challenges encountered away from home and with loved ones, I trust in the wealth of future opportunities. My focal point remains extracting positivity from every circumstance, serving as a guiding principle to perpetuate my resilience in fostering hope.
a.
In my recent promotion to the role of customer service manager, the strength of hope has become a crucial asset. As someone in a position of authority, maintaining a positive outlook and encouraging optimistic thinking can have a significant impact on my team when expressed genuinely and appropriately. Grounded in values-based leadership, I aim to convey to my team the idea that taking pride in both personal and professional aspects,
along with nurturing an optimistic mindset, can yield favorable outcomes. Additionally, I will stress to my colleagues the importance of embracing hope and concentrating on positive and successful outcomes, as this is likely to contribute positively to the overall organizational culture. Such an approach directly aligns with and enhances the company's
values, even if the impact takes time to become evident.
A2. One aspect where I could have demonstrated improvement is in the realm of courage. I tend to internalize my feelings, handle issues privately, and prefer a low-key approach when facing challenges. Reflecting on my previous professional experiences, I recognize that if I had been more courageous in expressing my difficulties of being apart from family and confronting uncertainties, I might have found a greater sense of reassurance and comfort. Moreover, I believe
that having more courage to speak up and share my perspective during my past work experiences
could have led to stronger connections with colleagues and fostered a higher level of trust, rather than maintaining a more introverted stance.
a.
Elevating my courage will significantly boost my effectiveness as a values-based leader. This advancement empowers me to face new challenges and diverse obstacles more readily. Furthermore, as a customer service manager, exhibiting courage serves as a commendable model for team members to emulate, encouraging them to stand up for principles, even when it may be unpopular. This attribute, integral to a values-based leader, harmonizes closely with the company's fundamental values of integrity, growth, and respect.
b.
1) Aim to be more forthright and open in communication with others.
2) Build the courage to readily embrace and confront new challenges.
3. Foster a greater willingness to take risks and reduce the fear of failure.

Responsibility
Honesty
Esteem
a.
Assuming a role with Increased duties, like those of a customer service manager, requires
the development of an elevated sense of accountability for achieving success. I would
stress to my team the importance of every individual taking charge of their work
assignments and being responsible for the outcomes, whether positive or negative.
Moving on to another crucial value, transparency becomes pivotal. In my new managerial
capacity, it is crucial to be open and truthful not only with myself but also with my team,
establishing trust and humility in alignment with company values. The tolerance for
dishonesty, if allowed, can significantly impact organizational culture and productivity.
Finally, the fundamental value of regard holds substantial importance throughout the
business hierarchy. I would convey to my team that each person brings value,
encouraging them to share their insights and expertise, fostering a culture that embraces
diversity for a fresh perspective. This approach nurtures creativity and instills a sense of
belonging among employees in the company.
C1. In my recent elevation to the customer service manager position, I am responsible for
appointing a new team lead. Numerous challenges and hurdles must be addressed, including
potential conflicts among team members and the risk of favoritism in the workplace. A particular
complication arises as my colleague and close friend, Paco, has expressed interest in the team
lead role. Opting for her might be viewed as a biased decision due to our friendship, which
would compromise the principles of fairness and justice. It is crucial to give precedence to
choosing the most qualified and deserving candidate, irrespective of personal or professional ties.
Additionally, there is a potential challenge if Sophia is not chosen; she might decide to leave the
company and take her skills to a competitor. Navigating these fresh expectations and managerial
responsibilities demands thoughtful consideration and attention to detail.
C2. I would initiate a conversation with the individual who was not chosen for the role, stressing
the importance of approaching the situation with a humble mindset and being open to feedback
and insights to facilitate personal growth. I would assure them that this outcome is a chance to
enhance and further develop their skills. Additionally, I would underscore my personal value of
empathy, acknowledging that as the manager, arriving at this decision was a challenging task. I
would explain that the decision was made after careful consideration of a range of factors, and I
have confidence that the selected person for the role is the most suitable based on those
considerations. By promoting understanding and encouraging open communication, we can
collaboratively establish a positive and supportive environment, ensuring that everyone has the
opportunity to learn and advance.
