Elijah Droz. 7/8/2019 Week 2- Intentional Learning. The quote “Taking in the world around you through your senses, making sense of it, and responding appropriately”, means identifying what strategies work best for you as an individual. The taking in the world aspect is saying that learning strategies can be applied to most aspects of life. By making sense of how you learn you can pinpoint exactly how you need to handle certain daily situations. Lastly responding appropriately is just picking the best strategy to complete the task at hand. Being an intentional learner is being persistent when it comes to learning new things and being willing to step out of your comfort zone. Intentional learning ties into the overall goal of figuring out what the best option for your own personal learning is. Actively seeking knowledge is something I would like to personally work on. Willingness to learn new information is key when it comes to intentional learning. Two personal instances that I approached with intention involve my job and schooling. My job requires a good amount of critical thinking. I am required to use different learning techniques to stay on top of my work. The field I am in is constantly changing, so it is a constant process of learning and changing the way you approach things. Working with other people is also another big part of my job, which can quite difficult. I need to asses what is the best way to combine ideas and comprise with other people. Every day I am put into situations where I need to make on the spot decisions based off personal preference. Schooling is another example of something I approach with intention. School is something I had been putting off for a while. I finally decided to go back and finish out my degree. Going to school requires a lot of critical thinking and balancing out your daily life. There is no one set strategy when it comes to school, so you need venture out and find what works best for your situation. I am fortunate enough to be able to complete school assignments while at, so that allows me to multitask. Forcing myself to complete all my assignments on time is a big part of my learning process. By going to school, I am constantly doing things that I am not fond of, but I do them to increase my learning growth rate. My personal LCI results were, 28 for precision, 25 for technical reasoning,29 for sequence, and 20 for confluence. I felt that my results accurately reflected my personality and learning techniques. When it comes to learning I like to have a precise plan and have goals clearly listed out. It makes sense that precision and sequence would be my highest areas. Logical thinking is what I believe to be my strength. Change is something I do not care for very much. I apply technical reasoning to most of my daily life routines. After looking up what confluence meant, I had a better understanding of why it was my lower scoring area. For the most part these scores were a good representation of my personal learning habits. Usually when I take these types of test the results are not very accurate, but this one seemed to fit me the best. In conclusion having awareness of your learning can help in several areas in life. At home it is important to have a comfortable setup and organized plan. Home is the place where you decompress to it crucial to have your technique planned out. In school you need to quickly identify how you learn best. Understanding how you learn makes the schoolwork not as stressful and you can retain more information. If you know how your mind works you can plan out your school study schedule more efficiently. Being aware of how you learn can also help if you are struggling or falling behind in class. Lastly learning awareness can help make you a better worker. Knowing your role and how you can contribute to the group is essential. Figuring out what tactics work for you can improve your work performance. Taking a step back and figuring out how you learn best helps you and others work cohesively. Everyone learns differently, by knowing your own personal learning preferences you can help alleviate some of the difficulties of life.
