Task 3
Fundamentals of Diverse Learners D096
A1. The language barrier that these parents are facing is probably very frustrating and hard for these non-English speakers. One strategy I would use to address this situation is to establish a clearer line of communication. I would host parent-teacher conferences more often and look into providing translation services so they could speak in their native language.
A2. A strategy I would use in this situation is to establish clear roles and responsibilities in the classroom between my co-teacher and me. This would help the both of us overcome barriers by creating boundaries that we would both have to respect. This would benefit the students by creating a more cohesive teaching style between the two of us.
A3. I chose to write about individualized education program. IEP’s are designed for a single student and are individualized just for the disabled student. If the child is found to be disabled, you are required to make a plan within 30 days of this eligibility. General education teachers should be aware of this deadline so that it can
be met accordingly with the help of their team. To make an IEP, parents, teachers and other staff members collaborate to create a plan to meet the student’s needs. General Education teachers should be aware of this to properly collaborate with the parents and administrators. Every year the IEP is reviewed, and every 3 years the child is reevaluated (www2.edu.gov, 2019). General education teachers need to be prepared for these timeframes as they are part of the IEP team.
