Introduce yourself to the class! Share where you work or plan to work after completing your program, and any hobbies or special interests. Also, tell us why you are taking this course and what you hope to gain from obtaining your degree. Lastly, please take a look at the course objectives in the syllabus and discuss their relevance to your career goals. Instructions: Please respond to at least 2 other students. Responses should include direct questions. Your first post in this discussion must be 250 words. Introductions must be submitted the first week of the course to maintain your registration in the course. Students who do not post to the discussion will be automatically dropped from the course. Discussion: As you build your human relations skills, it is very important to establish an acute sensitivity to the impact communication has on your interpersonal relationships at home and at work. Human relations communication starts with your desire to connect with another person. Sometimes, connecting can be a challenge with technologies such as email, instant messaging, text messaging, and forms of social media. These modes of technology make it difficult to read non-verbal cues. We continue to be dependent on relationships for people, processes, and technology to give us our best results. Based on your readings this week (see Content - Week 1 - Reading and Resources), how can we improve communications with each other in a world filled with technology that often results in physical isolation? Be creative in your answer! You may find appropriate articles at the end of each chapter, and/or identify articles through the APUS online Library. Finally, be sure that all discussions are answered in full, in order to ensure the best possible grade based on the work submitted. Discussion postings are evaluated based on the quality of the posting, and the degree to which the posting meets the criteria established for this particular assignment, and in accordance with the grading rubric provided. Timely participation in discussion threads, quizzes, and assignments is required. Except for Week 1, a student's initial discussion post is due by Thursday of the week due, not later than midnight, Eastern Standard Time (EST). The primary post is expected to be no less than 250 words; a peer response post is expected to be no less than 100 words. Hello Professor and Class, My name is Tareisha. I was born and raised in a very small town in Louisiana. In my Senior year of High School, I decided to join the Army and left one month after I turned 18 and now I am in my 19 th
year of service. Currently, I am stationed in Arizona, been for the past year and a half, on my way to retirement in at the end of the year, finally! I am looking forward to being a full-time mommy to a wonderful, but handful and active, little 8-year-old boy. I enjoy spending time with my son, family, and friend, traveling, shopping, collecting coins, shot glasses, and license plates (thanks to the Army). Since I've been in the Army I have been stationed at various locations in the US, Middle East, Europe, and Asia so I got to travel and experience different cultures which I absolutely enjoyed. This past December, I completed my AS in Computer Applications and now I am 3-4 classes into my BS in Information Technology. I am currently enrolled in this course as well as the Intermediate Web Development course. I just recently completed the Adobe Photoshop and Web Development Fundamental courses which were pretty interesting. I am taking this course because it is a requirement for my Degree. After completing my degree, I'll get a job working as a Help Desk Technician or Systems Administrator somewhere in the area that I plan on retiring at. I have a few Certifications under my belt as well, which is beneficial in the IT world. Human Communication is very important, whether personally or professionally so I am really looking forward to getting as much as I can out of this course. I think I am a great communicator when need to be, however, it’s a struggle sometimes because I am a bit of an introvert so I only communicate when necessary. I have been working on that trait and on being more open and getting to know more people. So, with that being said, I look forward to interacting and working with all of you and good luck with course! Hello Professor and Class, Since the quarantine due to the COVID-19 pandemic in early March, technology has become the number one way to communicate between co-workers, family, and friends. Personally, I enjoy face to face or telephone calls rather than texting and emailing because I think I can get my point across more clearly as well as understood the other person’s point as well. When emailing or texting, sometimes the point or objective is not communicated or understood as clearly as should be. However, since technology is the only safe way to communicate now, people need to really be clear, concise, and to the point when putting out information. Some other ways that we can improve communications with one another, would be to don’t use acronyms, unless they are official ones, don’t type in bold or all cap letters as well. When you’re on a video conference, please wear bottoms as well as professional tops. We’ve all seen or heard about people conducting interviews without bottoms on due to the video only showing the top portion of our bodies, but clearly sometimes that is not the case. When on a teleconference, ensure that you are in a room with little to no background distractions or noises, even though this may be a little bit difficult if you have children running around all over the place whom are bored and have been these past few months. Also, ensure to mute the calls when you don’t want them to hear something that you are doing but try not to mute often. Another way to improve communications is to not eat or take other calls when on the video or teleconference call. Lastly, please disconnect the call or camera when you are finished, we all have seen what could happen when this is not done. Tareisha
