Sight Words Words that are seen and used everyday and can be seen often in reading. These are words that do not need to be sounded out or assistance pronouncing. They are words that can easily be spotted or picked up by a reader in order to reach better fluency. The difference in the spelling of the word vs. the sound may make it more difficult to learn and therefore will increase reading fluency. ( Understood,2023)

Alphabetic Principle When students begin to learn the letters and their matching sounds. They start to understand how they come together to form words of the spoken language. The readers start by learning from what they have already been taught and progress forward from there. Teachers need to give direction and provide activities for their students to practice the letter sounds and the way that it will help to increase their reading fluency. (DOE,2023)
Phonics and Phonemic Awareness Phonics are the ability to determine different sounds that each words are made up of. Phonemic awareness is when a student is able to notice the smallest sound in a word. Students who have a good knowledge base of sounds should be able to break down words, blend words, blend sounds, and rhyme. Students can also notice beginning and ending sounds of the words. (Voyager Sopris,2023)
Multisensory Activity for Phonics The teacher can read a story to the class aloud. Once the teacher is finished, the students can practice writing the words or illustrating pictures. The students can use sand, shaving cream, tissue paper or finger paint to make the reading lesson engaging but also informative. (Reading Rockets,2023)

Multisensory Activity for Phonemic Awareness Make flash cards with each word on them. Then also match an object with the word so that when a student pulls on or the other they can match the sounds and the words to the visual object. (Reading Rockets,2023)
Additional Support Struggling Readers: If a student of yours is struggling reader then it might be a good idea to pull them aside for some one to one reading time. This will help the teacher to understand where the student falls and get a good list of words or vocabulary that they understand or not. Advanced Readers: Teachers should have higher level books for these readers as well s some challenge worksheets that will be encouraging to the students to want to read further. Remote Learners: Teachers can provide online learning activities for readers to practice that are tied to the physical books. ELL (English-Language-Learners): For these students, it would be good to have books read aloud or have audio books so that they are able to break down the stories and hear each word at an appropriate pace. (DOE,2023)
