Social and Emotional Intelligence (SEI) Power Skill SEI Skill Sets Scenario Self-awareness Empathy Sociability As as school nurse I am required to attent IEP meetings with students that attend my school. These meetings are often for students with special needs. During these meeting we must all work collaboratively and have open communication. We must all show empathy for the students and parents as this can be a stressful meeting for the parents involved. Self-management Stress Management Self Care Stress management is important in not only patient care but also in everyday life. I manage stress by stepping away from my office and taking a short walk down the hall and back. This allows me to breath and clear my mind. Self care is also very important to me. I wake early in the morning before anyone in my home is awake to have time for my daily devotional. Interpersonal communication Compassion Mentoring I am in charge of mentoring and overseeing a LPN at my school. I must delegate many task to her during the day. During her training I try to be a good listener She has high anxiety and is not confident in her decision making. I am compassionate to her concerns and constantly give her reassurance Executive function Adaptability Problem Solving Being adapatable is key to providing leadership. Situations can change very quickly and we must be flexible and open to change.I have had to be adaptable in my job with the many special needs children at my school as they all present with very different medical needs. These medical needs require a great deal of problem solving also. I must problem solve how to provide adequate care to so many childrens needs Social awareness Self Confidence Patience Having confidence in your knowledge assures others they can follow your leadership. While talking to students and parents I must be confident in ablilty to provide care. Having patience is so important in every day life. I have to be extremely patient when dealing with so many complex and different needs of my
students.
