Questions over of individualism/collectivism.
The U.S. is considered
me more individualistic and Vietnam more collectivist.
Kristen shows values of individualism throughout the film, she stated that she feels very different than many people with the way she dresses, acts and
feels. She, at first, felt a separation between her and her Vietnamese co-
actors because of their differences and the language barrier. She even noted
feeling weird having to by shoes and a bra for her dress as she doesn’t normally dress like that, and it was hard finding her size in Vietnam. She also
didn’t like being told what to do by her fellow actors or the vietnamis directors, individual rights and identy is a big part of individualism. Chau showed collectivsm throughout the film, he did this by typically agreeing and siding with Giang in discussions and conversations, when Lorell
would disagree he would typically back Giang. This shows interdependence and conformity to norms, not wanting to change. 2.
Questions over High/Low Power-Distance.
The U.S. is considered to
be low power-distance and Vietnam is considered to be high power-distance.
A. Give the example in the film about how the Vietnamese government exemplified high power-distance. Describe the situation and how the Americans and the Vietnamese responded to it.(5pts)
B. How did Doan Giang respond to Kristen when directing her in the play that exemplified high-power distance. What was her response? (5pts)

Questions over monochronic/polychronic view of time.
The U.S. is considered more monochronic and Vietnam is more polychronic.
A. Stephanie Mulligan the stage director from the U.S. was in charge of the sets, light, and props. Give an example of what she said or did that expllified her belief in monochronic view of time AND connect it to one of the
values or beliefs of a monochronic culture. (5pts)
B. Give an example of something that Do Chau said or did to exemplify a polychronic view of time AND connect it to the beliefs and values of a polychronic culture.(5pts)

The U.S. is considered to be more direct and Vietnam is considered to be more indirect.
A. Give an example of a behavior of Lorelle's (something that she said or did) that exemplified direct communication AND connect it to a belief or value of a direct culture. (5pts).
B. Give an example from one of the Vietnamese actresses, Ngan Hoa who used indirect communication when asked about the prounciation. (5pts)
