Student Name : Celina Gonzalez Article Name : A step toward effective language learning: an insight into the impacts of feedback-supported tasks and peer-work activities on learners’ engagement, self-esteem, and language growth. Authors : Ali Ramadan Elbaioumi Shaddad and Biruk Jember Journal name : Asian-Pacific Journal of Second and Foreign Language Education Publication date : December 2024 Write 3 things you learned from the article (Each item should be 3 to 4 sentences}. 1. One thing that I learned from the article was how a learner’s engagement is affected by feedback-support tasks and peer-work activities. To determine how a learner’s engagement is affected by feedback and peer-work, an examination was conducted by proposing a taxonomy that compromised four types. These include behavioral, academic engagement, cognitive engagement, and psychological engagement. Each of these taxonomies helped the authors to determine how a student’s engagement is affected when implementing feedback and peer-work into lessons and activities. 2. The second thing that I learned was how a learner’s self-esteem is affected by feedback- supported tasks and peer-work activities. A student’s self-esteem is affected by both feedback and peer-work. If one has low self-esteem, they may be seen as someone who perceives themselves superior and end up overestimating their skills. Feedback would allow the students to be humbled and not view themselves as superior over the other students. Students with low self- esteem often lack self-confidence and belief in themselves. Peer-work could help bring the students out of their shell and help make them more confident about themselves. 3. The third thing I learned was how one’s language growth is facilitated by feedback-supported
tasks and peer-work activities. Language growth goes far beyond a student’s ability to master basic vocabulary and syntax, but rather it is dynamic and has academic vocabulary that is acquisitioned involved. There are many things that language growth is dependent on, and feedback and peer-work lessons and activities will assist in that dependency. What 2 things you found interesting from the article. (Each item should be 3 to 4 sentences). 1. One thing I found interesting from the article was how the authors designed the study method. The study consisted of mixed methods that employed both qualitative and quantitative methodologies. These methods each assisted in researching and investigating the impact of feedback and peer-work activities and lessons on students. 2. Another thing that I found interesting from the article was how the data was collected. The students who participated in the experimental group were involved in treatment of 15 total sessions. These sessions involved different specific feedback-supported tasks and peer-work activities. The students who participated in the control group were involved in a more traditional instruction without the feedback-support tasks and peer-work activities that the students in the experimental group were involved in. Write one question that you have about the information. One question that I have about the information is mainly about the investigation/research method. The question is, were there any obstacles that appeared during the investigation and conduction of the research. In two well-developed paragraphs , summarize the research article. This article was about how peer-work activities and feedback-supported tasks affect a learner’s engagement, self-esteem, and learning growth. Each of these are impacted in different ways, and the authors of the article go into deep detail about them. Peer-work and feedback
lessons and activities affect a student’s engagement by having an impact on their behavioral, academic, cognitive, and psychological engagement. A student’s self-esteem is affected by peer- work and feedback is different ways. Students with low self-esteem will be impacted in a different way than students with high self-esteem will. Along with affecting their self-esteem and engagement, peer-review and feedback affects a student’s language growth in many ways. This includes improving their knowledge of academic vocabulary and dynamics. Students today deal with different things in school, and are impacted by different things, but it is important for teachers to impact them with lessons and activities that will benefit their education. Teachers should focus on lessons and activities that they can implement into their students’ education. By teachers doing this, the students will be able to improve their knowledge more and more, as well as develop new ways of learning. Students will also be able to learn from their mistakes and successes, and learn from their peers by working together in groups.
