Early Thoughts on Professional Goal Setting
Goal #1: The first professional goal that I am setting is communication. My goal is to communicate more with the students and with the parents. This goal is essential because it will help build a learning foundation for the students. Communicating with parents to let them know what students will be learning will allow them to know how they can help at home. Also, communicating with the students about their learning keeps them involved in their learning. According to the Georgia Department of Education (2023), this goal meets Teachers Keys Effectiveness System standard 10: communication.
Goal # 2: The second goal that I am setting is a positive learning environment. My goal is to have a better learning environment for my students with clear expectations. I feel that having clear expectations for the students creates a better learning environment for them, and there are fewer disruptions and behavior problems. According to the Georgia Department of Education (2023), this meets Teachers Keys Effectiveness System standard number 7, which is a Positive Learning Environment.
Goal #3: The third professional goal that I am setting is to have an academically challenging environment.
My goal is to have explicit learning targets or goals for my students. Having these objectives will allow my students to see what we are learning and how we are building upon each objective. According to the
Georgia Department of Education (2023), this meets Teachers Keys Effectiveness System standard number 8, an Academically challenging environment.
