PART B: DISCOVERY AND INTENTION STATEMENTS Discovery Statements
After exploring the Further Exploration section, reflecting on the information from the class, and exploring the results of your MBTI report, respond to the following questions. Use the prompts to guide you in your answer.
1.
Explore the individual dimension explanations in the report. After reading through these, how do you feel about the type you were given from MBTI report?
―
Does the report accurately reflect
your personality preferences? In what ways?
―
Was it the same as your self-
assessment? ―
Were you surprised by the report? In what way?
―
Explain using examples. The results of my MBTI report, which identified me as an ISTJ, resonate strongly. Important characteristics that I identify in myself are summarized in the description, which highlights traits like dependable, realistic, and practical. The way in which ISTJs are described in the report as systematic, hardworking, and careful with details and procedures. The idea of embracing adversity and enduring it in order to demonstrate stability and resilience resonates deeply with me. My ability to remain composed even in stressful situations is well-represented in the report, and my decision-making process is aligned with my tendency to base decisions on reliable information and prior experiences. The consistency of the results with my self-evaluation adds more credence to the validity of the MBTI. The lack of surprise provides validity to the report, which emphasizes the importance of the ISTJ personality type's practical judgment, adherence to protocol, and methodical work approach. Taken together, the report provides a comprehensive and accurate representation of my personality preferences, highlighting the traits that define my approach to life and my work.
2.
Investigate the facet areas of the report
―
Pay particular attention to the sections on managing change, conflict, and communication.
―
Using the information in these sections, what have you learned about yourself? Look in the “Enhancing my Style” section for tips.
―
Can you think of a specific
situation when you've demonstrated these preferences in your behaviour? What happened?
Upon careful analysis of the insights presented in these sections, I have developed a deep comprehension of my ISTJ personality type and communication style. I now recognise that interpersonal relationships play a crucial role in completing tasks effectively and that some tasks are better completed with prior connections. This insight prompts me to reflect on the complex social environment that
I live in. My self-awareness has been enhanced by the information, which has brought to light important facets of my interpersonal and decision-making style. The emphasis on being aware of the right situations to express or withhold opinions highlights the critical interaction between situational awareness and adaptability, which forces me to carefully consider when to voice my opinions. Essentially, this self-discovery journey has sparked a heightened appreciation for the dynamic interplay between my personality traits
and the complex social fabric in which they unfold, in addition to offering valuable insights.

I want to improve my conflict management skills by actively seeking to understand differing perspectives during disagreements."

ensuring that I fully comprehend the concerns and viewpoints of others before responding."

A daily planner that is well-maintained is the
perfect artifact to represent the essence of the ISTJ personality type. This concrete illustration demonstrates the ISTJs' penchant for structure and methodical task management and fits in well with their
practical, detail-oriented personality. The planner represents the ISTJs dedication to accuracy and order, worn from frequent use. Its well-organized pages reflect their methodical approach, demonstrating dependability and accountability. Beyond its usefulness, the planner is a contemplative tool that helps ISTJs—a personality type inherent in them—evaluate their past experiences and look for answers based on historical data. This artifact highlights the ISTJs attention to detail, organization, and dependability. It also highlights their dedication to practicality and structured planning in both personal and professional spheres.

Reflect upon the MBTI activity we did in class ―
How did your personality preferences factor into your decision to Prosecute or Not?
―
Was it easier to make the decision after knowing all the facts? Why or why not?
―
See the Further Exploration in SLATE for more information on MBTI
I tend to value structure, order, and following the rules because I'm an ISTJ. In this case, the fact that the man acknowledged not paying for the goods which is a blatant disregard for the store's rules. I might place more weight on the necessity of upholding established protocols and order.
Making a decision becomes more complex when all the information is known, including the man's personal circumstances. On one hand, admitting guilt indicates a rule violation, which clarifies the decision. However, a layer of empathy and understanding is added by learning about the recent death of his wife and the burden of raising six young children. I may find it difficult to break from convention as an ISTJ, but the extra information adds a human element to the decision, making it more difficult to make. Although I understand that rules are necessary, I may feel compelled by my sense of duty and responsibility to look for a solution that considers the man's difficult personal circumstances in addition to the rule violation.
