1. Identify examples of the characters using (a) defensive communication and of (b) supportive communication. As we see from the movie clip there is a simple argument of who should get the apartment between the two of them after they separate. They both use supportive communication when they exclaim what they have provided to enhance the overall value of the apartment by listing the things they have done to make it more aesthetically pleasing. They also pair the supportive communication with defensive as they slander the other ones claims about what he/she has done for the apartment basically downgrading what the other person has done. 2. What were the outcomes of defensive compared to supportive communication? The outcome of these two different communication approaches is just a back-and-forth argument resulting in defending why they have contributed more to the apartment. This is followed by supporting evidence as they point out the few things around the apartment, they have done to either appreciate the apartment or exclaim why the partner has depreciated it. 3. What was your top-ranked talent identified in the Strengths Quest assessment? Utilizing this talent, what advice would you give to the characters that would increase their use of more supportive communication behaviors and less defensive communication behaviors in the interaction? My top ranked talent was being a problem solver. I could have given the characters advice on what outcome makes them both the happiest. This would have hopefully caused less of a defensive behavior and more of an understanding and supportive behavior.
