Julie Alden
Use this template to plan the organization and content of your speech. Replace the bracketed text with your responses. You may use bullet points unless otherwise noted. Planning
Speech Topic: Remote work policy. General Purpose Statement (to inform, persuade, or entertain): I intend to inform the audience. I want the audience to know that many companies have not returned from remote work since COVID and that there are many factors to consider when making a remote work policy. Audience Information:
My target audience will be bosses, supervisors, and CEOs of remote work employees/ businesses. Audience Considerations: I will need to consider the language and terminology remote work companies use, different tasks remote work employees complete, and what different companies find most important when it comes to their policies. Introduction
Attention Getter: Did you know that after COVID, many companies chose to remain exclusively remote? Statement of Credibility
: “
COVID-19 has accelerated the shift to remote work.” (
Marcus, 2022).
Relevance Statement: This is relevant because if your employees are remote workers, you will need to create a new policy for such work conditions. Thesis Statement:
It is important to have remote work policies to ensure efficiency in a work from home
setting. [Based on your notes above, write the introduction for your speech using complete sentences

Body
Write the body of your speech. Make sure to support all points and sub points with evidence, explanations, and citations and use complete sentences
. Main Point One:
Working from home allows for a more casual setting. Sub-point: Unlike at an office or company building, working from home is more personal and casual, so it will be important to implement different guidelines to align with this type of setting. Sub-point: You may want to consider what type of attire you’d like your employees to wear, the presence of children/ other people, pets, etc. Transition: Since your employees are working from their homes, there is something else to consider. Main Point Two:
It Is important to consider what technology your employees will need and where/ who they will be provided by. Sub-point: Not all employees will have access to the necessary technology to get their work done such as a computer, phone, tablet, etc. Is this something they will need to obtain, or will your company provide it? Sub-point: In this case, you may need to determine what tools are most necessary for completing their tasks. Transition: Next, I will mention another aspect to consider. Main Point Three:
Since employees will be working from home, communication will be even more important.
Sub-point: Consider how often you will need to check in with your employees to ensure work is getting done efficiently and to your standards. Sub-point: Since they will be working from home, you will need to think of ways in which you can observe the work being done since you are not physically with your employees. Transition: There is one final aspect to consider. Main Point Four: With your employees working from home, they will not be commuting to work. Sub-point: You can change your hours of operation since your employees will be at their “office”
at different hours than they were at the office/ company building. Sub-point: You will need to consider their work-life balance since they will be working from their
homes. Transition: There are many things to consider when constructing a work from home/ remote work policy, some may be different for you than another company, and it is up to you to determine what is most important to you. Conclusion
Statement of Closure: If you consider your employees and what is most important to you and your business, it will be easy to put together a remote work policy. Recap of Thesis/Main Points: All this information may seem daunting, but having a remote work policy is necessary to ensure efficiency and productivity for your business.
