You may use bullet points unless otherwise noted. Planning Speech Topic: The importance of HIPPA LAW General Purpose Statement (to inform, persuade, or entertain): Inform. Audience Information: My target audience is students of all ages that will one day need to use these laws for not only their own protection, but the protection of others, and throughout their careers. Audience Considerations: The social aspect of these laws considers the fact that some people do not respect other peoples’ information, so we need a way to protect ourselves against those entities that wish us harm or unruly gossip. Culturally, we are a nation that holds dear our loved ones, and we want to ensure their safety. From churches, hospitals, and therapies; to schools, businesses, and science HIPPA is used almost everywhere! It is morally correct to want to protect. Ethically I will use respectful language in getting my point across. I will be stern while keeping my tone respectful. Introduction Attention Getter: It is a Monday morning at the clinic, and you have just overheard a patient and nurse casually speaking about another patient’s information! She has released some private information, and you know it doesn’t sound right. What would you do? Are there laws protecting you? Are there laws protecting that patient? Statement of Credibility : Sharing confidential information is prohibited. Relevance Statement: There are laws in place to ensure that whoever wants to spill “the tea,” must be held accountable. Thesis Statement: Confidentiality is important to patients of any age and that is why HIPPA should be taught in schools."   It is highly recommended that we as a nation are protective of each other, that we are unified in our beliefs and theories to protect our given rights. HIPPA LAW is used to protect us against outside entities that want to use the information for defamation, gossip, or identity theft. Our privacy and peace align us with ourselves. Body Write the body of your speech. Make sure to support all points and sub points with evidence, explanations, and citations and use complete sentences . Main Point One: What is HIPPA LAW? Sub-point: HIPPA stands for Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act Sub-point: HIPPA Is used in healthcare and businesses who access confidential information. Transition: The reason HIPPA is used in these places is crucial to keeping people safe. Main Point Two: How does HIPPA protect patients and healthcare workers? Sub-point: Go on to explain how it protects information from identity theft, defamation, and gossipers. Sub-point: It sets a very high standard for business professionals. Transition: But what if someone exposes confidential information without authorization

Sub-point: Depending on the seriousness… They way they released the information, who they released it to, how much information was released, and who all reflects the penalties that will be received. Transition: Confidentiality is highly important to patients of all ages and HIPPA should be taught in schools. Conclusion Statement of Closure: HIPPA keeps us safe from those entities that wish to do us harm. Recap of Thesis/Main Points: C onfidentiality is important to patients of any age and that is why HIPPA could be taught in schools. To grasp the importance of HIPPA early, could resolve the oversharing of information. I have had experiences signing a HIPPA form. These contracts are important and mandatory.
