Textbook Assignment 14 1. What is social media? Define its scope and major trends. Social media is a term for websites and apps that is a hub for collaboration, communication, community-based input, content sharing and interaction. People use social media to stay in touch and informed about all the latest events and what is trending, but also to stay updated on family, friends, and community events. In the most recent years, the most common social media apps have been tiktok, snapchat, instagram whereas facebook and twitter have become more outdated. 2. Name and describe the major factors companies need to consider when deciding which social media platform is best for them. One large factor companies should consider when deciding which social media platform is best for them is who they want their target market to be. If they are looking more toward a younger generation, it would be wise for them to develop ads and a marketing campaign using tiktok because that would be the best way to reach most of gen z. If their target market is millennials, facebook would be a better option because that is what millennials are more familiar with. 3. What are the key characteristics companies need to consider when developing social media content? Some of the key qualities companies need to consider when developing social media content is to know the audience, have clear goals, know the competition, understand the platform, know how to combine content with sales, and lastly know the content distribution channels. Being able to know all of these is setting the company up for success and being able to have good social media content but not knowing even one could ruin the whole thing. 4. Take a look at a new social media platform with which you are not familiar. Become a user. Then determine four different KPIs you could use to measure engagement on that platform. The social media platform that I decided to use was TikTok. Four different KPIs that would measure engagement are likes, social interaction, follower growth, and social shares. All of these track how well the campaign is doing and if you are gaining more business from using the social media platform. Tiktok was a great way of doing this, because creating funny content that would appeal to gen z became highly liked and it was shown in the comments. Some examples of doing this are staying updated on the celebrity drama happening momentarily, doing the most popular dances, using fun filters, etc. All of this attracted gen z to watch the ad and like or even comment on the post.
