View the Vestal’s 21 st Century Classroom presentation by Meghan Vestal on 9 Ways to Communicate with Parents for Teachers: Increase Parent Communication! Once you have viewed the presentation, respond to the six questions below and make one additional comment. Questions: 1. What is the best tip to use at the beginning of the school year? Find out your student’s parent preferences by sending home a survey for the parent to fill out asking best times to reach the parent, preferred method of communication, and how they want to be involved (different needs educators might have for parents to be involved). Such as, field trips or classroom volunteers. 2. What was the number one reason why parents did not help with their child’s homework? The ways knowledge is taught in school is completely different from what parents were taught when they went to school because parents didn’t understand the methods being used and taught to the students. 3. What did Mrs. Vestal do to support parents in helping their child? Started creating Math Parent Study Guides for every single unit sending them home at the beginning of the school year and these study guides provided vobocabulary, then provide step by step visual and written explanations. 4. With a google site, what are some of the things you could share with parents? Instructional videos for parent study guides, calendars, announcements, surveys, class images, newsletters, upcoming test dates, and homework schedules, so just about anything. 5. How could you use Wakelet with your parents? Wakelet helps educators create a collection of content but helps with monthly newsletters to communicate information with parents. 6. Which two messaging apps were recommended? ClassDojo and remind 7. (Make an additional comment or question of your own!) I am going to miss this class.
