Parent Communication Email
To the Parents of Jaxson,
I am Ms. Angie, your son’s Kindergarten teacher. I am writing this email to discuss the academic development of your child. Jaxson is a very brilliant child. Jaxson is extremely helpful to his friends. I am so excited to have Jaxson in my classroom this year. Jaxson is young and talented, and I am looking for to working with him this year. This week in Math we will and adding items. We will be using Animals to do this. Jaxson seemed to catch on to adding and understanding it once we added the plastic animals to help with adding. Jaxson was required to receive a pre-assessment from their teacher, as a requirement of schools. When Jaxson completes a task on his own during the pre-assessment, this lets us know what Jaxson does and does not know. Jaxson did well on the test today. Jaxson got everything right except for one answer. After the pre-assessment we went through and explained the assignment and then they did the post-assessment. Jaxson as well as his classmates did the post-
assessment, he completed the assessment on his own so that the instructor can determine whether Jaxson learned anything new during
this session. Jaxson answered all the post assessment questions correctly. The instructor will undertake an exercise for your child. Anchor charts will be on the walls to help assist your son with his addition and subtraction and various methods that you might use to help solve a problem. (ex: fingers, counters and pictures) Once Jaxson has attempted to solve the problem on his own, if he needs assistance,
I will help him out. If his response to the question is wrong, I will show him what he did wrong. I will show him what he did wrong and how to get the right answer. When we did this exercise, Jaxson did an
outstanding job. This exercise would help figure out the solution without me having to explain it again, which helps to explain our indicator of their attention abilities. Jaxson did well on the test however I assigned some goals for Jaxson to try to reach, some of the goals are to continue to work on addition and subtraction and finding out what the component elements of the problems are. Jaxson can accomplish those objectives. I made a plan in which he would first work on some basic addition and subtraction problems then once Jaxson gets them down, he can move on to the harder and higher Math problems. Finally, there would be an activity sheet in which once
Jaxson meant the goal, I would circle it and then Jaxson could move on
to the next problem. Jaxson is doing very good with basic Math, but when it comes to the components of the problem, he is having some trouble grasping those components. Jaxson does comprehend after we
briefly go over the topic. I think if you keep working with Jaxson at home will help your child continue growth by helping them work on their Math at home. If the family gets involved in Jaxson’s learning it encourages the participation of Jaxson’s activity of learning. Counting like food like ok for example give Jaxson 4 carrots and then 7 apples and ask him to tell you how many he had all together. (4+7=11) Then you could do the same thing, but this time subtract (7-4=3) The use of counters or math blocks practices problem solving equations is the second activity that maybe used to demonstrate how to teach the part
– or + part = whole technique. I hope this email gives you the much-
needed information about your son Jaxson so that you know your child is safe at school but also that he is learning at school. Feel free to
email me back anytime.
Ms.Angie
