Comparing and Contrasting Visual Learning Styles How different can two visual learning styles truly be? Contrary to what the names may suggest, there are many differences between visual/verbal and visual/non-verbal learning styles. These differences range from how one may process information, to what learning approaches work best. Learning approaches and information processing are only two of the many variations between visual/verbal and visual/non-verbal learning styles. Learning approaches is an area where visual/verbal and visual/non-verbal learning styles tend to vary the most. One example of this is how visual/verbal learners tend to write explanations out to learn information, while visual/non-verbal learners tend to create charts and symbols to learn information. An article by Sophie Blaine states It is best for visual[/non- verbal] learners to absorb information through a graph, chart or slideshow (2018), while a learning styles article explains Visual/verbal learners are more efficient when presented with visual information in the form of written language ” ( Rolfe and Cheek, 2012). While both learning styles process visual information more effectively, they vary as visual/verbal learners tend to learn more effectively through written visuals, while visual/non-verbal learners process symbolic and photographic information more effectively.
