Topic Sentence
. A raisin in the sun is a play following the persistent deferral of the Younger family’s dreams. It shows vividly how much an African American family must suffer from discrimination and racism.
Main Point 1.
The play was released in 1959 based on the book of the same name by Lorraine Hansberry. (Cultural History: The Real-Life Backstory to 'Raisin in the Sun', n.p.). The film version debuted by Daniel Petrie in 1961. Subpoint 1.
In her book, she drew on the experience of her house in Chicago which was subjected to “was subject to a racially discriminatory housing covenant” (Cultural History: The Real-Life Backstory to 'Raisin in the Sun', n.p.).
Subpoint 2. It portrays that a Black American family spent an insurance payout of their dad’s death on buying a house in a racially restricted neighborhood (Cultural History: The Real-Life Backstory to 'Raisin in the Sun', n.p.).
Main Point 2.

, I appreciate that they raised the family problems and depicted how much lower-class people yearn to improve their life.
Main Point 1.
There were family conflicts in the way Mr. Younger’s cheque was divided, where priority of Mrs. Younger is unequal to her children.

Walter, her son, received 65% of total insurance cheque but he lost the share of money because of failing in investment of liquor store.
Subpoint 2.
Although Bethany, his younger sister, would like to use the money for her medical school tuition.
Main Point 2.
Through the way they both wanted to allocate money on their career or their school, I found that they are trying to improve their social class. Subpoint 1.
Walter hoped his investment into the liquor store would provide him the financial security to boost them out of poverty and to be in middle class. Subpoint 2.
Bethany wanted to be independent and to show the feminist perspective and her great ambition to be a doctor.
Shaped How You See Yourself/World
Topic Sentence. A raisin in the sun
shaped how I see the discrimination in the U.S. as well as motivated me to realize my dream by doing step by step right away depites coming risks.
Main Point 1.
Watching A raisin in the sun
film when I just came to the U.S. for a year, gave me
a different perspective on the racism and discrimination in society. Subpoint 1.
My worldview about this serious issue used to be pretty much in the idea of no existence of the discrimination and racism in our modern country thanks to the strict regulations. Subpoint 2.
Racism and discrimition is still a huge issue in all aspect like housing, education, and employment. Specifically, in the film, a spokeman of white community tried to pursuade a black family to move away from the white neighborhood in order to keep it respectable.
Main Point 2.
A raisin in the sun gave me motivation to pursue my aspirations without hesitation.
Subpoint 1.
When Younger family’s members tried to improve their social position and their financial security, they met many difficulties. Walter even lost his huge amount of money.
Subpoint 2.
Youngers decided to stay in the new house in white neighborhood, even though white community persuaded them to move away from that area with a reimbursement. A raisin in the sun shaped me not to hesitate to fulfill my dream and not let my dream be deferred like the raisin in the sun.

encouraged me to participate in action for social justice and to form friendships across different cultures, ethnicities, and social classes.

Point 1.
A raisin in the sun raised more awareness of injustice in our society and of how important some actions students need to take to change that inequality.
Subpoint 1.
In Saint Paul college, I attended the global culture club, where I can learn more the cultural differences and social justice isssue, and how we can solve
some arising problems. Subpoint 2.
If everyone understands more how bad minor people groups have been suffering from the discrimination, we can take action to bring social justice for our world.
Main Point 2.
A raisin in the sun also gave me motivation to learn more about the wealth
disparities and social class differences.
Subpoint 1.
Bethany reminded me of poor children do not have good financial conditions to go to school in my home country. Thus, I donated some of my savings to raise fund which helps poor children in Vietnam go to school.

I am an immigrant and the first generation going to college, so I understand how much Walter and Bethany desired to improve their lives financially thanks to investment and medical degree. A raisin in the sun
let it is important to ameliorate and maintain social class differences to speak up and assert ourselves in the society.
