Report
Introduction Main Point 1 . People spend hours daily on social media, I am interested in researching how much it influences pubic discusses. Subpoint 1 . Therefore, my research is most closely related to Agenda-Setting Theory. This theory shapes what we see rather than just reflecting stories to the public (Mass Communication, Media, and Culture 2022, 2.2). Subpoint 2 . The more attention the issues receive on social media, the more important they can be considered by the public (Mass Communication, Media, and Culture 2022, 2.2). Subpoint 3 . I am curious in how social media may set agenda with public’s concerns. Main Point 2 . According to the theory, I hypothesize that if my classmates spend a lot of time on social media (independent variable), then they will report discussing the issues that they have seen on social media with other people before their views in real life (dependent variable). Subpoint 1 . I believe that my study will confirm the hypothesis, even though I think there will be not a vast number of “yes” from peers who will report that they discuss the issues they heard from social media but there will be a great number of “maybe”. Subpoint 2 . I think this the study will confirm this, since my coworkers and I always choose hot news to discuss with customers at work all day. Thesis . In this paper, I will report that the result of my survey confirms my hypothesis, illustrates how much social media impacts our lives, and make some connections to Agenda- Setting theory. Data and Hypothesis Topic Sentence . All of participants reported that they know news on social media before they do in real life, and most of them will discuss those issues with other people. Even though most participants reported liking social media, my data suggests that high use of social media resulted in sadness, all of which confirms my hypothesis. Main Point 1 . My data shows that spending a lot of time on social media helps people update news faster than the public’s views. Subpoint 1 . Over 80% participants reported that they use social media “daily” and only one of them checked online platforms “weekly”. Subpoint 2 . 100% of the class said they get to know news or information on social media before they know it in person. Subpoint 3 . While two thirds of the class reported that they maybe talk with other people about the issues they have known from social media, the rest of them confirm they’ll definitely do it. Main Point 2 . I believe these results confirm my hypothesis. Subpoint 1 . I am sure that all participants are active on social media platforms thanks to the data, which confirms my independent variable. Subpoint 2. As they’re using social media, they find the issues for conversation daily. It means social media determines the issues that concern the public rather than the public’s view. This confirms my dependent variable. Subpoint 3 . Trends on social media also impact on users. Explanation and Connection to Theory
Topic Sentence . I conclude this paper helps explain about the class’s experience of using social media and does not extend Agenda-Setting theory. Main Point 1 . My study helps explain the correlations experiences the class associates with social media. Subpoint 1 . The more time the participants spend on social media, the more influences issues on those flatforms can have on us. Subpoint 2 . Social media makes the issues posted on them become viral and be topics in common conversation. Main Point 2 . Additionally, my study did not contribute to Agenda-Setting theory how deeply Dearing and Rogers described. Subpoint 1 . Dearing and Rogers said that the promotion of public agenda in mass media can form a law or policy (Agenda-Setting, 8). Subpoint 2 . However, my study did not analyze how possible discussion of issues on social media can result in making new regulations. Reference Mass Communication, Media, and Culture.
