I-R-A: Learning and Teaching with Technology
EDU261 Teaching, Learning, and Technology
Insights
My first thought about taking a class where I learn how technology is integrated into the class
room to support teachers and students was not necessarily a good one. Throughout my life I have
always heard excessive use of technology will “rot your brain”. Technology takes away the need
for us to learn as it has all the answers. Technology takes the creativity and imagination out of
life as it does all the thinking for us. Lets not forget how computers are replacing people in many
aspects of our lives. There is no need ot socialize at the super market since your cashier is a robot
and teachers are no longer needed since developments in A.I. have been able to replace them in
the classroom. After making my way through the EDU261 course my outdated view of
technology being integrated with learning and teaching has changed for the better. I now know
that technology helps create PLE’s (Professional Learning Enviorments) and PLN’s
(Professional Learning Networks) where teachers and students alike can share or seek knowledge
to better help themselves and others in the classroom (Kimmons et al., 2020) . These
environments and networks are made up almost entirely of online spaces only reachable through
the use of technology. I have also come to realize through the teachings in EDU261 that the need
to be able to use technology compitentanly is undeinable for generations under me. Slowing the
intergration of tech in a classroom will not stop the integration of tech in society and as a result
younger generatons have an undoubted need to be able to effectively use modern technology to
complete tasks to have a fighting chance as a functioning part of society. Lastly, I understand
that technology has the ability to bridge a large gap of inequity for those who learn in ways
outside the traditional teaching and learning methods. Technology opens doors to those who
learn or even display learned concepts in different ways (2017). It gives teachers the ability to
make coursework flexible to the needs of students in their classroom. Resources Common Sense Education is a website that was shared with me during the my time in EDU261
and although it was not a resource I found on my own it is a resource I feel has benefitted me
greatly and I plan on keeping it in my metaphorical pocket for my future career in education.
Common Sense education is a resource that does not seem to stop giving. From resources for
families to resources for educators and students, there is just about everything you can think of in
relation to technology integration in the classroom. My favorite aspect of this site is the ease of
finding an app or online game relating to the content you are teaching that has been reviewed for
effectiveness and online safety by other users at little to no cost. Through this same aspect of the
site I have also found countless online tools for teachers to help with things like lesson planning
and classroom management. Not to mention the numerous blog posts and articles linked within
that give support and advice when it comes to implementing technology into the classroom. This
website is essentially a “one-stop-shop” for all your tech integration needs in the classroom. Application A few years back I was taking a class where we were tasked with making a podcast. While we
were able to choose a topic or wor in groups, there was no way around making a podcast.
Personally, I am not much of an interviewer as I don’t make causal conversation well. I don’t do
well with my words when I am in an on the spot kind of moment (regardless of planning out
questions before hand) and I stutter, stammer, and get unbelievably awkward. As one can

imagine, I struggled greatly getting the motivation to work on this assignment just from my own
foresight on how I handle interview type work. In the moment I would have rather written a 10
page essay on my chosen topic then make the podcast, but after learning so muhc about
technology integration I see that there were so many other options I could have suggested to do
instead, such as an online presentation board, a film, or even a story complete with animations.
Having the option to choose a way to present the information I had learned in that class in a way
that was more meaningful and engaging to me could have lead me to take away more from the
class, be more engaged in my own learning, and so muhc more! Citations
