“The ideas behind social advocacy relate to social justice: that idea that there is value to the society as a whole when that society defends and upholds the rights of people in the community who are not afforded the same dignity due to disadvantage or discrimination” (Online Advocacy,2023). Social advocacy is a term that not many people use. What most people know them as are non-profits. The very first non-profit I think of is Wounded Warrior. Having family that are Vets and having friends go through the homelessness that a lot of Vets and others go through this is. Fighting to provide somewhere for the homeless to stay and get clean, if addicted to anything, is very close to me and my family. However, what we will be speaking about now is National Coalition for the Homeless.
National Coalition for the Homeless
The National Coalition for the Homeless mission is: “To end and prevent homelessness while ensuring the immediate needs of those experiencing homelessness are met and their civil rights are respected and protected” (The National Coalition, 2021). Homelessness is among one of the highest problems that the United States is facing. The homeless population is average 17 people per 10,000 now this is just a guess. Now this is an appeal to ignorance because it “argues that a proposition must be true because it has not been proven false or there is no evidence against it” (15 Logical, 2022). “An appeal to ignorance doesn't prove anything. Instead, it shifts the need for proof away from the person making a claim” (15 Logical, 2022). One might also see
someone pushing to fight homelessness as a False Dilemma because they could see the group is manipulating to polarize the audience.
Common fallacy
A common fallacy that people might use, especially teens, is Appeal to hypocrisy. “Appeal to hypocrisy, or to quoque fallacy, focuses on the hypocrisy of an opponent” (15 Logical, 2022). An Example is a kid is getting in trouble for xyz and the kids’ argument is “well you did xyz when you were my age”. People have used this fallacy to try and get what they want from people that are easily manipulated. The funniest fallacy and possibly the most common is the Sunk Cost. This fallacy is “when someone continues doing something because of the effort they already put in it, regardless of whether the additional costs outweigh the potential benefits” (15 Logical, 2022). A common example of Sunk Cost in everyday life is watching multiple episodes of a tv series and not able to get into it. Then you think to yourself, “welp, never getting
that time back” this is Sunk Cost, wasted time.
Celebrity in position of Power
We all have seen someone on tv or social media that we think would be good for a political position because we learned what their actual life style is like and their stances. Because
we got drawn to someone of a role they play, i.e., president, is Appeal to Authority. An example of someone that people want to run for office of president because of the views they have expressed or a role they played is Jeff Foxworthy or some people even say Dwayne Johnson. People want Dwayne because he plays powerful roles and is very outspoken. Now in personal opinion celebrities should not be running for office, except trump he was a businessman before celebrity.

Conclusion
In conclusion we have learned that fallacies are just a daily life occurrence that we can not prevent from happening. Now we can try not to have certain ones like Sunk Cost or false Dilemma, but we can never truly escape these. We never know when a sunk cost is going to occur until it is too late. False Dilemma will always be around because someone is trying to get out of trouble or get what they want. Until everyone can see eye to eye, and we do not need to manipulate or lie about things then we can live fallacy free.
