A. 1. I have demonstarted communication and All Individuals Can Learn within a professional setting. Last year, as a first year teacher, I showed communication in the way that everyday after school I would talk to almost every parent and let them know how their students day went. I would be open and honest with any behaviors that I thought were concerning. I also sent a weekly email every Sunday that went over what we would be learning in the upcoming week. This email also included upcoming dates or reminders. I have also demonstrated All Individuals Can Learn by teaching to each different learning style. I make sure that I am including viduals, auditory, reading/writing and kinesthetic. Everyone learns differently so I made sure to include the different learning styles in my lessons so that each individual can learn. 2. Communication will help me develop as a Next- Gen candidate because if I can be open and honest with my communication it will help my students be open and honest with their communication. I can teach my students that communication will help with learning. If you dont understand something, it is important to ask so that you can understand. All Individuals Can Learn will help me develop as a Next-Gen candidate because being able to teach to all different learning styles and understanding that everyone learns differently allows for their to be flexibility. This also helps students see that I am flexible as a teacher and will work with them on what they can do as long as they are learning. Something that I can do to improve communication is bring up communication to my support team. I will be able to ask them what they do for communication and get some better ideas that I can incorporate when communicating with both parents and students. Something I can do to improve All Individuals Can Learn is to attend a seminar that would give me tips and tricks to help improve this in my classroom. Then I can incorporate those into my lessons. Seminars provide lots of useful information and provide examples on what to do. These examples will be things that I can see and then do in my class. C. Belonging & Empathy 1. I would use belonging and empathy to communicate with parents/caregivers. Empathy is being able to understand another persons feelings. This is an important to use when communicating with parents/caregivers because it allows them to be more open if I, the teacher, and empathizing with them. This can especially help if there is a difficult conversation at hand. It can allow parents/caregivers to feel heard and valued. I would use belonging by making sure that all my students/family feel like they belong within my classroom. I can use belonging to communicate with parents/caregivers by providing an opportunity where parents can share their background. This could be a family tree project where parents/caregivers are also involved and feeling the sense of belonging.
2. Belonging and empathy both facilitate learner growth because they allow students to feel confident in their learning environment which can allow them to be more successful. When students feel like they belong in a classroom and are heard their educational growth will be better. That also goes with when students feel as though their teacher understands the the feelings they are going through. When someone understands you, it makes you feel validated. All of these feelings lead for a more successful education.
