To whom should your memo be addressed? I would request permission from the Director and the Manager of the department to investigate the problems presented by selecting Friday morning at 8:00 a.m. for the weekly department meeting and the possible barriers related to selecting the Teams Video venue. To start, the research would need to include information on distracted driving since many of the attendees are driving during the meeting time. A second point of research would include information on the disadvantages of multitasking in relation to attention and absorption of information. It would also be advantageous to touch on how information is secondarily being disseminated, meaning gossip or grapevine channels. Information that travels these channels is often incorrect or incomplete. 2. Examine the Synthesis Lit Review (WA#2) instructions. This assignment calls for the student writer to use scholarly (academic) and professional (trade) sources. Explain what you understand a scholarly source. A scholarly source is a written, signed, and peer-reviewed document. The information in the document is reviewed by peers in that field of research for accuracy and quality. An author could be a professor, researcher, or a student. Examples of a scholarly source are JAMA, The Journal of the American Medical Association, and JAH, Journal of American History. While trade or professional sources can be written by a professional in the field, the information or research is not a peer-reviewed. Trade journals, magazines and periodicals are considered trade sources. They are related to a particular industry and could include opinions and news. Examples of a

trade source or a professional source are the Apple experts at Macworld or information in Popular Science Magazine. 3. Take a look at the Research Report (WA#3) instructions. What additional research demands are placed upon the writer for this assignment compared to WA #2? How can you as writer best present your report so that it is most readily accessible for your primary audience? Research and synthesis of the scholarly and trade information was gathered after completing writing assignment #2. Additional demands for writing assignment #3 would be to compile, form and fully develop the ideas in writing that communicate the problem for the parties that were chosen to address the issue. Making sure that APA writing format is used according to the latest edition of the resource is another additional demand.
