My topic’s scientific background:
GMOs can fall into many deferent areas when it comes to natural sciences. In the fields of
biology and chemistry research has been done on GMOs these studies have o huge impact on
GMO perceptions in the scientific community.
Impact on my audience:
The issue is important to the audience because parents and the public have concerns about
GMOs. They need to know what they are eating feeding their kids know where it comes from
what is going into their body. They would also like to be aware of any environmental impacts
they may have.
My empirical evidence:
Benefits of GMOs
1. More nutritious foods
2. Less use of pesticides
3. tastier foods
Possible concerns of GMOs
1. GMO foods can cause allergic reactions
2. Not all GMO foods are properly labeled
According to research studies farmers that used GM seeds reported using fewer pesticides and
herbicides. Use of pesticides was significantly reduced. This reduction in herbicide use was also
substantial. GMO foods offer higher nutritional foods and also reduce consumer costs.
Why this issue is important to me personally:
3
I choose this issue mostly because i had no real knowledge on the subject. I wanted to know
more about the world of GMOs and what effects they might have on the human body. Its always
good to know what we are putting in our body and how it can effect us immediately or in the
long term.
Impact on my thinking:
With my lack of knowledge of GMOs food and crops has changed after doing my research. I am
more open minded about the issue and its possible advantages and good for the environment.
Thinking like a scientist helped me ask the right questions to find the right answers. Great tasting
less expensive food that is nutritious sounds like a win to me.
