DHH Reflection Guest Speaker: Audrey Flowers 1.What information did you find helpful from her presentation? Please be specific.   There was a lot of helpful information from our guest speaker during class. Audrey Flowers spoke about DHH students and gave information about them. I did not know about the different levels of hearing loss and what they might sound like to the people who have it. Hearing it in the video was very helpful to start to understand the different levels of hearing. Additionally, learning about how to place students was very helpful. In class Ms. Flowers spoke about how sometimes front and center may not be the best for every student. As teachers we must know our students and what is around them, inside and outside the classroom, that may be a distraction or interfere with their learning. 2. Did any concept taught today surprise you or challenge a preconceived notion?     One concept that was taught today that surprised me was about reading lips. I have heard about it before, but I did not realize how hard it really is to do so. When watching the video and the sound would go out, I could not read anything from the mouths that were talking. I did not think about how hard it could be to read lips due to facial hard, mumbling, and even accents. 3. Do you have any further questions or concerns in regard to the lesson?    I do not have any further questions or concerns regarding the lesson that I can think of at this moment.
4. Do you feel well equipped to work with DHH students? What specific strategies will you use to assist you in working with DHH students? After the lesson, I feel more confident working with DHH students. I have not had much experience working with DHH students before, so I did not understand. Some specific strategies that I can use that will assist in working with DHH students would be to pay attention on where they are sitting in the classroom. Also, I would have to focus on not talking while my back is turned to the class. Another small thing that may help is having a clear mask for the students with DHH to be able to see my lips as I talk.
